Fully Restored 1886 Beach Cottage Close To Downtown Shops. Pelican Place, once featured on THIS OLD HOUSE, has all the comfort of today with the charm of yesteryear. Once a railroad office, the cottage was moved to the present site; the interior was gutted, deconstructed with structures salvaged and renovated, and then rebuilt with modern plumbing and wiring, central air and heat, and other modern comforts yet still retaining its period character.
The cottage is fully equipped for a care-free vacation: a huge, well stocked kitchen, comfortable living room with a 50 inch TV and entertainment center, games, movies, and Netflix. Sleep well in the comfortable beds. For your beach needs, there are an outside shower, beach chairs and toys, and even off street parking large enough for a boat.
Guest Access: We offer convenient door codes for self-check-in. Chesapeake Properties by Portoro uses convenient keyless entry for self check-in, details provided 2 weeks (or less) prior to arrival by email and text message.
• Early check-ins or late check-outs: If the property happens to be ready earlier than the standard 4 pm check-in time on the day of your arrival, in most cases an early arrival option may be available when confirmed with the main office. Late check-outs must be confirmed with main office staff prior to the date of departure.

Interaction with Guests: Our goal is that your vacation exceed your expectations. Chesapeake Properties by Portoro communicates via email and phone. After a booking is confirmed, rental agreement will be emailed to the guest for e-signature. Check-in instructions are sent by email and text message 14 days (or less) prior to arrival date. We offer convenient keyless entry for self-check in. We do typically check in with guests by text 1-2 times during their stays to ensure a 5-star experience and remain available for any questions. We are available to guests 24/7 for any inquiries.

This house was great for our group of 6 (4 adults and 2 children). There is room inside and outside to sit around a table and/or hangout. The kitchen is well stocked with items needed to make meals for a group. It is an easy walk to eateries including Coastal Baking and Deadrise Pies basically next door. We did drive one car to the beach each day for the small children and supplies but never had an issue parking. Older kids and/or adults could make the walk easily. The kids enjoyed the bunk bed room. One note for groups traveling together: there is a full bathroom upstairs and one downstairs off the kitchen. The upstairs shower is in clawfoot tub. We had to do some juggling to all manage showers but it was doable.
I sent a message prior to arrival to the property management with a question about what beach items were in the house. I got a partial answer and then didn't hear back again. I called the morning after we arrived to ask a question about water jugs in the house, had to leave a voicemail, and never got called back. When we arrived, there were some dirty bath mats still piled in the hallway, a couple of pretzels under the coffee table, and a pretty full trash bin already outside. Trash day is Tuesday, and we checked in on Wednesday. We suspect the trash didn't get out on Tuesday. When we checked out on Sunday, our bags didn't fit in the bin. However, the rest of the house, including kitchen, was clean. There were plenty of linens provided for use during our stay.

Stayed at Pelican Place for our first visit to Cape Charles. The recent renovation did a nice job of bringing modern conveniences and amenities to the oldest extant home in town while preserving the original character. Perfect for out family of four.
Location is conveniently located on edge of downtown just a short walk or golf cart ride from restaurants, shops, and the beach. 1/2 block from CC Ryder cart rentals so pick up and return was a breeze.
We will definitely stay again!

We came to get away last year for Thanksgiving, and liked it so much we came back this year for Thanksgiving. The house is well appointed and has everything you could need to make a Thanksgiving dinner away from home for a family of 4. Downtown Cape Charles was busy this year, with lots of activity in the local shops and restaurants. It's always great coming back to a warm house and comfy beds after walking around town and local trails. We'll likely return again next Thanksgiving, as this is quickly becoming a great family tradition!

We had a lovely week in Cape Charles. We arrived and the Home was found to be impeccably clean. It was very comfy for two couples and 3 children. The kitchen was well stocked with a rice cooker, slow cooker, a griddle and pots and pans, coffee maker, practically all the essentials for cooking. The one improvement could be a new set of non stick pans as they are not usable in the condition they are in. The beds were comfy, the AC unit worked perfectly. One thing to mention with small children is that both of the doors leading to the outside have locks only on the door handles. It would be good if they add a higher lock for safety. A screen door added to the front door would be beneficial. The screen door on the side door doesn’t lock either so we always had to make sure doors were locked so that the toddler wouldn’t get out. We also had to put a chair in front of the front door since it’s on a main road we were afraid she would open the door. So I would suggest an extra lock on the doors! Otherwise, the bedrooms were great and very comfy mattresses the kids loved the bunk beds and taking a bath in the claw foot tub. We especially loved that we were on the Main Street and walked every day into town and to the beach. The backyard was really cute too with the fire pit and outdoor shower. Altogether a really nice stay and we would recommend Pelican Place to friends and family!

We stayed here for Thanksgiving 2020, just needing to get away from home. The layout of the house is great, the kids loved the bunk beds. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner away from home. The TV/Surround Sound were great for relaxing afternoons watching movies with the kids also. We would definitely like to return to rent this property again!

We had a lot of fun at this house! The house is so neat and unique. Our children loved it. Cape Charles is the perfect place for little kids. We had a lot of fun staying at this house. The stray cat next door has had kittens so if you are feeling generous they will accept donations of cat food and milk and or scraps. :-) CC rider rentals is a must for your golf cart needs. Please don't forget to get some ice cream at brown dog ice cream down the street. This house is really conveniently located on Mason Avenue right where everything is. I'm sure we will be back the next time we visit Cape Charles!

This is a really cute house within walking distance of most of the main attractions in Cape Charles. It’s an old house, but in good shape. The kitchen is very well furnished. The back yard is really cool too, including a grill. Similar to other posts on here, the washing machine in the kitchen is super loud.

My family (including kids ages 8, 8 and 10) loved renting this home for a get-away this summer. Cape Charles is always charming and this home is a close walk to shops and restaurants. The home was clean and just as described. We would definitely rent again!

Great older home that was nicely renovated. The kitchen is well appointed with a variety of necessary tools, pans & even a slow cooker. Paper towels, tp and towels were well stocked.
The back yard was beautifully landscaped and we loved the fire pit.
We will be back next year!
