Hard beds, flat pillows, limited amenities, no room cleaning unless you wanted to pay for it. We also were only allotted 1 towel each for our entire 3 night stay. If you wanted another towel it would cost $8 Francs. No air conditioning and it was hot! Very limited front desk hours. We were given a code to put in prior to arrival but it was incorrect and we had to hunt down phone...

"The Hotel Appenzell is absolutely charming! The central location on the plaza is excellent, with a view to activities going on in town. It's conveniently right next to the Tourist Info center. The staff was cheerful and helpful. They responded promptly to requests, such as for a fan in our room. The room was delightful. It was bigger than other rooms we stayed in in Switzerland, and it was decorated in a charming, white and gold french style, with crystal ceiling lights, and big windows...

"We had a junior suite, and it was a great size. The entire hotel is staff-free and automated, which actually made things simple and easy. Plentiful parking, even for larger vehicles, right in front of the hotel. My only complaint is with the Expedia listing. If you follow the Expedia map guide from your reservation to locate the hotel, it will take you to the wrong building, whether you open it in Google Maps or Apple Maps. Just search the hotel on your own. This would not have thrown me so...

"Everything about this hotel was awesome. The owners (I think) and staff were warm and friendly and helpful and communicative. The room was comfortable and clean and had a great view. The location was bang on. And the facilities were everything I would hope to see. Great bed too. Excellent all rounder. Would recommend."
