At the Blue Heron, you will feel like you're on your own resort. Breathtaking marsh views with the ever-changing tide create a quiet, peaceful, and magical experience unlike anywhere else.

This home features 6 bedrooms, 5 with a king beds and one with 2 double beds, premium linens, ensuite bathrooms, Smart TV, and balcony access for each bedroom.

The main floor living area and sunroom have ample seating for all of your guests. They are surrounded by windows overlooking the grounds, private dock, and marsh.

A chef's kitchen with custom cabinetry and marble countertops is fully stocked with dishes and Henkel cutlery to serve your guests. KitchenAid appliances include a double oven and warming tray, 5 burner induction cooktop with stainless steel ceramic cookware, a large refrigerator with in-door water dispenser, a dishwasher, and all the small appliances you need. A butler's pantry leads to a work nook with a desk.

The ground floor features expansive views of the grounds and marsh with swinging benches, seating areas, a serving counter with a refrigerator and deep freezer, and a charcoal grill. Onsite you'll find kayaks with seats and life jackets, bikes and helmets, a marsh-side firepit, and plenty of yard (2.5 acres) to play and view nature.

Centrally located, we are a great base for exploring the Golden Isles. We are the closest accommodation and within view of the Sapelo Island dock and ferry. Darien Georgia is a low-key destination to relax and have fun along the Georgia coast. Shrimp boats docked along the riverside, together with the old shops, restaurants, and stores will make you feel like you have gone back to a simpler time. If the outdoors are what you’re looking for, look no further. Darien/McIntosh County has world-class fishing, boating, kayaking, birding, golf, and some of the best seafood you will find.

I enjoyed the house because everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom and there was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. I really enjoyed the outside space of the home and the grill was definitely a plus. One of the bedroom’s air conditioning wasn’t working properly so the bedroom wasn’t cool enough and some of the floors were a little gritty but those things aren’t enough to say I wouldn’t stay here again.

Fantastic getaway

Absolutely the best Vrbo we have rented so far for our annual gathering of old friends. Lots of room with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, very well equipped kitchen and large gathering spaces , both indoors and out. This property is ideal for a large group looking for a peaceful and private setting.

Relaxing and peaceful

We rent vacation homes frequently and this was one of the best. The home is beautiful and very comfortable for our group. 2 bedrooms on the main floor and 4 on the upper level, all with ensuite baths and access to a balcony. The house was spotless and the kitchen was amazingly well appointed! During our 2 week stay we made many big meals and had everything we needed for great cuisine. We enjoyed using the kayaks, although it should be noted that the house is not on a deep tidal creek, so we had to pay close attention to the tides! The house is located on a tiny dirt road about an hour from Savannah, and in the other direction, Jekyll Island, and Cumberland Island National Seashore. We had great fun exploring the whole Golden Isle Coast during the day, and in the evening we had cocktails on the porch overlooking the peaceful salt marsh. We would definitely recommend this lovely home!

Views of the salt marshes from every room

A six bedroom house each with it’s own private bath. Windows everyone, bird feeders everywhere, balconies everywhere. The best kitchen ever and plenty of room for family meals and games. Outdoor fire pit, ping pong, corn hole, bicycles and kayaks. A beautiful house in every way. Bring bug repellent.

Memorable stay

This house was everything we hoped for. A private bath for each couple, plenty of space to hang out, and a well appointed kitchen with all you need. It's almost equal distance from Savannah or Jacksonville airports which helps if flying. Stephan was helpful and quick to respond as a host. We highly recommend!

Amazing Views and Property

We had our annual family vacation at this property for the 4th of July holiday week. We were in absolute heaven with the property and the peace it provided. Proximity to some amazing outdoor adventures was really convenient, and just hanging at the house was fun and engaging. They supply a good amount of supplies from Kayaks and paddles, to ping pong tables and Cornhole. The marsh views are out of this world, and spending time on the dock or on one of the large porches in a rocking chair to watch the sunrise is a must. We did have some difficulty checking in due to cleaning services from the prior guest taking longer than expected, so it ate into our checkin time by about 2 hours. Additionally, because the house runs on separate heating/cooling units vs a central unit, there can be some variance in room temperature. However, most of the house and common spaces were always kept cool and refreshing. Speaking of space, this place had a lot of it. We loved how much room there was in each of the bedrooms and common spaces. Additionally, even though there is a neighbor directly beside the house, it is separated by a wall of trees, and we never felt like we were on top of anybody. The host was very communicative leading up to our check-in day and made sure that I had what I needed. It was such a special place and we had such a great time. My family can't wait to get back down there.

Perfect for Birders and Nature Lovers!

We discovered this property while on a birding trip last year and wanted to experience it ourselves. We were so glad we did. The location, being on the marshes and having a little bird-filled pond just a few steps away makes it perfect for those who enjoy birding and bird photography. There are even several bird feeders with bird seed provided! It is also convenient to a number of other birding hotspots such as Altamaha WMA and Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge. The house itself is beautiful, and amazingly cozy for a large house. Every bedroom has its own bath, some with showers only and some with both a tub and a shower. (One thing to be aware of is that bath soap and shampoo are not provided, so you will need to bring your own.) The kitchen is well equipped, with virtually anything you might need, and there is a separate coffee bar with its own Keurig coffee maker, fridge and sink, and wine glasses as well. WiFi is included as is cable tv that included our favorite Regional Sports Network. That was a pleasant surprise! And I can't say enough about our host, Stephan. He was super responsive and professional. If you are looking for a quiet getaway for a large group/family, you will love this property. One thing to be mindful of is that anyone who stays there must be able to negotiate stairs, as all of the enclosed living area is built above the open basement. I guess you would say it is built on stilts. We had a great time and hope to go again!

The Marsh with the Mostest

We had a phenomenal time at the Inn. Expansive home, grounds, and beauty all around. We found every inch of the property to be inspiring and luxurious. In close proximity to Sapelo and Darien, we had plenty to keep us busy during our stay but also had time to relax, bird watch, bike, and paddle the marsh. Just entirely the best experience. Stephan was incredibly responsive and kind. Best marsh property around! We'll definitely be back.

Our 2nd visit was as wonderful as the first!

The Blue Heron is such a lovely and well-appointed place for our whole family. We loved watching the sun rise each morning across the marsh as we sipped our coffee. The area is so quiet and peaceful and we could feel our shoulders relaxing as soon as we walked through the door. We enjoyed s’mores around the fire pit, floating in the provided kayaks and cooking together in the large kitchen. We spent one day at Cumberland Island, and in spite of the unusually chilly weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our time. Thank you Stephan for once again taking care of us. We will be back!
