Beckhole station site/remains. View SW, to the end of the line, which had until 1865 been the upper end of a rope-worked incline section of the Grosmont - Pickering section of the 1836 Whitby & Pickering Railway - horse-worked. In 1865 the NER built a deviation from Grosmont to replace the incline, but the stub to Beckhole was retained, for goods working, also a passenger service in summer 1908-1914. The Monks Cross different one's can be found all over the Yorkshire Moors as a landmark for the monks walking to and from Whitby on the east coast. Sitting on top of a hill with views all round including a view of Whitby in the far distance.

Internet was fine, shops about 15 minutes walk. Very hilly, lots of steps to the shops. Lots of places dog friendly, loads of dogs around. Hotel was good dog friendly too. Nice room but must have had smokers in it previously before us because it stunk of smoke 🚬 which was a shame because the room was nice! But the smokey smell was very unpleasant.
