We were extremely disappointed with the cleanliness and presentation of this accommodation. On arrival, the property was dusty and cobwebby throughout with spiders in nearly every corner of the rooms. It was apparent that it had not been dusted properly for a long time. The main living area floor appeared unswept, and the bathroom was particularly unhygienic, with faeces and hair left on the toilet. These issues were serious enough that the owner had to attend in person to address them.
The bedrooms were overwhelmed by a strong, artificial floral scent that caused headaches and discomfort. After searching for plug-in air fresheners or automatic diffusers, we discovered the smell was coming from the laundry detergent used on the bedding. It was so overpowering that it made the rooms unpleasant to sleep in.
While we understand that welcome gifts are not obligatory, the absence of even a basic provision, such as a pint of milk, felt unwelcoming. Additionally, the welcome/information folder was not visible on arrival and had to be located by searching through drawers and cupboards.
Overall, the experience fell far short of expectations. Cleanliness and comfort should be a given, and unfortunately, this property did not meet either standard.
