Rockybrook Miller's cabin

This early 1800's miller's cabin has been lovingly restored and is ready for your relaxing getaway. Only 7 miles from Main Street Abingdon, this cozy retreat is perfectly located for family fun. Situated a few yards from the North Fork of the Holston River, you have easy access to fishing and Adventure Mendota, a local tubing outfitter. We are minutes from Bristol TN/VA and Bristol Motor Speedway. Hiking, biking, fishing and hunting are enjoyed by area residents. Local favorites include the Barter Theatre, the Martha Washington Inn, Heartwood, The Creeper Trail (including the Appalachian Trail), and a wonderful variety of local food fare. The Highlands Festival, Bristol Rhythm & Roots and many other cultural events make our area an excellent vacation destination.

The interior of our property is the original miller's cabin built in the 1820's. In the early 1900's, the cabin was expanded and a clapboard exterior added. Master bedroom and bathroom are on the main floor. ***Please note, that the two upstairs bedroom have extremely steep steps. This adds to the uniqueness of our cabin, but could be an issue for visitors with mobility issues.

A full kitchen will lend itself to meal preparation and entertainment. Microwave, coffee maker and all cookware are provided.

  • Barter Theatre, located in Abingdon, Virginia, opened on June 10, 1933, when the country was in the middle of the Great Depression. Most patrons were not able to pay the full ticket price. Robert Porterfield, founder of the theatre, offered admittance by letting the local people pay with food goods, hence the name "Barter". The original ticket price for a play was 40 cents, or the equivalent in goods. In 1946, Barter Theatre was designated the State Theatre of Virginia. Ms. Regina is a treasure! She greeted us with a warm welcome and even baked us a homemade cake for Valentines Day. There was fresh cut flowers throughout the cabin and lavender linen spray by the bedside! The cabin itself was so clean and smelled amazing. My husband and I enjoyed a quiet and relaxing weekend and look forward to returning in the future!

Wow. What an amazing stay. This historic property was a truly unique and joyful place to spend time at. It was super cozy, well equipped, and met all of our needs. Regina was absolutely wonderful. Her communication was amongst the best of any host I have ever dealt with and I have stayed at a lot of places. Book this place with confidence and prepare yourself for a wonderful experience.

We visited abingdon to see if it was a possible place to settle down. When we told our host, she was extremely helpful, welcoming, and even recommended a realtor for us! The house itself was so cozy, keeping the rustic vibes while also having all the amenities you need. Loved staying here!

My daughters and I spent a few nights in this cabin for a girl's trip. It was fantastic! The cabin is lovely, charming, and clean...full of character, antiques, and charm. The owner pours her heart and soul into making sure her guests are made to feel welcome and taken care of. Hospitality at it's finest! 10/10. We highly recommend!

This was a super-cute place to stay for the weekend. It was relaxing, comfortable, decorated so beautifully, and it had everything we needed. The only thing we had to grab was some half and half for coffee. She left the most delicious cake for us. My family is still raving about it. We would love to come back and stay with Regina again. She was a wonderful hostess and we enjoyed visiting with her. Please note, if you have older adults or small children the stairs that lead to two of the bedrooms are quite steep, but they are worth the climb. They are super-cute and unique.

Definition of Hospitality

We had an amazing stay! When we walked in, the house was spotless and so inviting, with thoughtful touches that made us feel right at home. Our host was the definition of hospitality, going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We loved hiking The Channels and attending the MLB Speedway Classic, even though the game got rained out the first time. A special thanks for the delicious chocolate cake and the thoughtful Bristol Motor Speedway bag. We can’t wait to come back!

Ms. Regina touched base a day ahead about check in which made the day of our arrival super easy. Everything about the house suited our needs from sleeping accommodations to kitchen supplies to hang out space for chit chats and board games. If your vacationing with someone whose experience is enhanced by the curb appeal (inside and out) this house is perfect- my sister is an artist and we were there to celebrate her 40th birthday and the house and all the interest of it meant a lot to her. Character and Charm!!!

We had the most wonderful stay at Regina’s beautiful historic home. From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed — Regina had baked a cake and left a heartfelt note for us. This is a charming cabin by a creek. Regina is welcoming and has thought of all the extras to make this a comfortable stay. Such a Neat Place!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We were in the area for an annual family reunion and this place was perfect for us! The kids enjoyed the outdoors, all the inside games and just having "adventures." Everything we needed was right there. We didn't even leave 1 of the days we were there. The uniqueness of the cabin was just perfect for our curious kiddos. It felt almost like Little House on the Prairie with some modern touches of course! We could tell there was much thought and love put into this place. Regina is an exceptional host! We just appreciated every little detail. We'll definitely be back next year!!!

Gal’s Get Away From It All Weekend

We are 3 friends who love crafting, sewing, quilting, and relaxing. This weekend was about taking time to unwind and heal from life’s demands. Abingdon was about half way between our respective hometowns. Regina is the best host! She has renovated and decorated this cabin to perfection! Plenty of space and comforts abound along with visual reminders to keep it simple. We will be back!

Charming!

We could not have asked for a more comfortable or accommodating stay. It was the perfect place to ring in the new year. The personal touches of the cabin, the thoughtful items all over that made our stay stress free, were much appreciated. We didn’t have to go far to find food, shopping, or hiking. Great location. Had it been warmer I am certain my kiddos would have played in the creek. We’ll have to come back in the warmer months. We’ve already told several of our friends about this charming cabin!

Property owner is amazing!

She did everything she could to make sure we had an excellent stay starting off with her signature welcome gift—delicious! We unfortunately had car trouble while there and she had us connected us to all the people in town to get it worked out before we left. Thanks to her, we made the best of time we had. The beds were great. The environment was awesome… my kids wanted to explore in the backyard. Thanks for all your help!

Girl’s Trip

In my search for rustic cabins, I happened upon this little piece of history. We absolutely loved the history of it having been built in 1810 as the miller’s cabin and grist mill. The owner is one of the sweetest souls we’ve ever encountered. The care that is taken for guests is above and beyond! We’ll be back!!!

Amazing Cabin!

We stayed at this cabin with some friends for the weekend, and we couldn't have asked for a better place. We fell in love with the cabin immediately. It was so well thought-out and homey. True Gem

We just could not stop talking about how wonderful this cabin is. It's full of local history, charm, comfort and beauty. Our host was very knowledgeable about the area including great places to eat and things to do. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was stocked and location was convenient.
