📜Some legends about the Northern Lights:

🇬🇷Anciente Greece: The words Aurora Borealis come from the Greek words “Aurora” meaning “sunrise”🌅 and “Boreas” meaning “wind”🌬️. For the ancient Greeks to have seen the lights there must have been some incredibly strong solar☀️ activity because sightings so far south are almost unheard of. The Greeks held that Aurora was the sister of Helios and Seline, the sun☀️ and moon🌕 respectively, and that she raced across the early morning sky🌌 in her multi-coloured🌈 chariot to alert her siblings to the dawning of a new day.

🇪🇺Southern Europe: It is very rare for the Northern Lights to appear over Southern Europe and such appearances require intense solar activity which usually results in red🔴 Auroras appearing in the night sky🌌. Not surprisingly, on the rare, rare occasions that they do appear, they cause quite a stir and, until fairly recently, were enough to terrify a populace unaware of the Aurora’s origin.
The poor residents of France🇫🇷 and Italy🇮🇹 for example believed the lights to be a bad omen heralding the outbreak of anything from war to plague🐀 and death💀. In Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, the skies are said to have blazed red🔴 just a few weeks prior to the French Revolution⚔️ and were later considered to have been a sign of the coming revolution in their neighbour state.

🇨🇳Ancient China: Auroral sightings in China are also rare and would have been caused by a significant solar☀️ event so unsurprisingly, the ancient Chinese were in awe of the lights that sporadically illuminated their night sky🌌.
It is said that many of the early Chinese legends associated with dragons were a result of the Northern Lights. The belief is that the lights were viewed as a celestial battle between good and evil dragons🐉 who breathed fire🔥 across the firmament.

"Sin duda fue expectacular,la mejor experiencia que e tenido.El lugar está perfecto,desde el techo de la habitación veíamos las auroras boreales.Todo muy limpio y las camas son bien cómodas,hasta tienen control de posición.El personal son demasiados amables,llegué después de las 11 pm y llegando nuestro carro se atoró debido a q me equivoqué de entrada y por la nieve se atoró y ellos bien amables nos ayudaron a esa hora.Sin duda recomiendo este lugar y volvería a quedarme.Todo es hermoso"

➡️A couple of weeks I wrote a caption explaining the Northern Lights from a scientific view👨‍🔬, now it is time for the legends surrounding this amazing spectacle:

📜According to one legend, Odin, the chief god and ruler of Asgard, lived in Valhalla, where he was preparing for Ragnarök. This event was predestined and would be Odin’s greatest battle⚔️, so he needed the bravest warriors at his side. During every battle on Earth, Odin would pick the warriors who would die and join him in Valhalla. The Valkiries👸 were female warriors on horseback. who wore armour and carried spears and shields🛡️, were tasked with leading Odin’s chosen warriors to Valhalla. The Vikings believed the Northern Lights🌌 illuminating the sky were the reflections of the Valkyrie’s armour🛡️ as they led the warrior to Odin.

📜In several other legends, they claim the Northern Lights🌌 were the breath of brave soldier who died in combat or they were believed to be the Bifrost Bridge🌈, a glowing, pulsing arch which led fallen warriors to the their final resting place in Valhalla.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦But for the Sámi people, the Northern Lights🌌 didn’t tell stories of heroism and bravery, they believed that they were the souls of the dead💀, and they were to be feared and respected in equal measure, so you shouldn’t talk🗣️ about them or even waving👋, whistling😗 or singing🎶 under them, as this would alert the lights to your presence and carry you up to the sky⬆️. Nowadays, many Sámi people stay in their homes🏠 when the Northern Lights are illuminating the sky🌌.
