This was my first time using a listing from HomeAway and the experience was terrible and could have been disastrous. For starters, this place is nearly impossible to find. We drove around looking for this location for over an hour and after asking locals and attempting to contact the property manager with no luck, I finally got HomeAway involved. They were able to contact someone at the property who was able to ping the actual location. The listing states there is a front desk/concierge. This was not the case as we sat for nearly 10 minutes waiting for someone to answer the gate. Eventually a young man who appeared to be in his late teens let us into the property, clearly not expecting us. He looked at my reservation and walked to a unit upstairs leaving us outside for several more minutes before coming back down and letting us into the room which he then needed more time to find the key to. While he went looking for the key, we examined the room. THE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO ELECTRICTY. Air conditioning, lights, television all inoperable. To make matters worst, there were dead bugs in the bed as well as in the shower. Also, the hot tub shown in the listing was filthy and wasn’t even filled with water. When we informed the young man at the property that the electricty did not work, he informed us that he was aware but also was not able to get in contact with the property manager. At this point, we decided to leave and seek a hotel that could accommodate us. We were fortunate enough to find one but had we been stuck at this property it would have absolutely ruined our trip to Tulum. I’m currently seeking a refund from HomeAway as this property manager still has not been reachable by myself or the company.
