"I've been to many many fine hotels. Charmante is #1. It was a "pinch me" experience. And somehow the staff were just as wonderful as the property! Seriously, this place is worth traveling for just to stay at. The room, the 2nd floor coffee lounge (unreal), the 4th floor speakeasy, the restaurant, the art, the decor. Each was a 10/10."

"Excellent hotel. Everything was spotless, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast had plenty of choices, the afternoon tea was a lovely bonus, and the dinner was excellent. I also enjoyed the steam room and the beautiful lobby. The location is perfect, with a convenience store right downstairs, close to the bus station, an airport bus stop nearby, and Bryggen just steps away. Highly recommended!"

"Location is very convenient, room is nice but lots of issues : 1)- thermostat doesn’t work well, room either too hot or too cold. Notify staff and nothing was done. 2)- Mirror in bathroom if too dark and not useable. 3)- Staff on weekend has no knowledge of anything else except checking in and our for guests. 4)- Breakfast is nice but eating in the dark and low ceiling basement is not a way to start your day. 5)- management is completely out of touch on the weekend."

However our 80 year old travelling companions who arrived around 7pm in the evening were told that even though they had booked and prepaid 6 months previously that the hotel was fully booked. They were shunted to an adjoining house and given an attic room accessed by an extremely steep staircase effectively a ladder. Compared to our room in the hotel itself, it was spartan.
