It was great value for our one night stay. If you’re looking for a location near the beach, train station and the bus stop to Ryde or Ventnor then it’s great. The rooms were small but the bed was comfy and we had tea and coffee provided in the room as well. Check-in and check out were really straightforward and everyone very friendly. Many thanks.

They couldn't find out booking, then we was given a room , the room was dirty, used toilet on the floor of the bathroom, we didn't stay we gave the key straight back in and found a different place to stay ,

I will send a formal review with photos over the coming days but I urge everyone to avoid this property - I stay in hotels every week and this is by far the worst ever

Does not even deserve the 1 star given. The rooms smelt damp towels were asked to be changed as they had been used and re folded from last guest. Damp on all walls. Very abrupt staff Contacted owner and her attitude was extremely stand off. No hot water and the pressure was so low struggled to even get a shower. Curtains did not grit the window or the nets. To was present but no signal. The only recommendation I have is STAY AWAY

We arrived on time for our check in, and were greeted by a very polite gentleman, it turned out he was from our own hometown, so a converstion soon took over, he carried my bag up and I carried my sisters. The rooms them selves were fine, my sisters was a double, so slightly larger than mine just being a single. there were a few little 'hotel' scrapes, obviously nothing can be kept brand new, but the important thing, it was clean. we didn't eat in the hotel, and was told that if it is busy, food, the bar, and entertainment is supplied, we were off season being the beginning of June. For the money, I can only say it was an absolute bargain, we went by train, so no need of the parking, but it appeared there was parking for at least 7 cars off road. I will definitely go there again should a break away calls. Grand Stay!

I left my rain jacket behind and the owner got in touch with me and he agreed to meet me next morning at Gunwharf Portsmouth because he happened to be travelling over, couldn't thank him enough

It's a budget hotel so don't expect any Bella and whistles. Room is compact but comfortable enough. Shower is not great very low pressure. If your just after a bed for the night it does the job.

The staff were really lovely, easy check in and easy check out. But, the bathroom had toothpaste marks all over the sink, glass shelf and mirror. The temperature of the shower was either really hot or really cold, you couldn’t change it manually. The hair dryer in the room didn’t work at all. The big bathroom light didn’t work, only a small one above the mirror when you used the shower you could hardly see what you were doing.

We had to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to the room my husband has COPD so we couldnt go back out for food as he knew he couldnt manage those stairs again - we were offered a different room lower down the building if we wanted to pay the extra bedside lamp was falling off the wall it smelled really musty the bed linen was white so could see it was clean but overall I wish I had booked somewhere else - overall the building needs updating ripped carpets need replacing etc

I was worried by the negative reviews of this hotel before arriving but circumstances dictated that we would stay here. In fact, the place was actually better than expected - not great but acceptable provided you only need the basics. Yes, the property is tired and in need of a face-lift; the carpets are well-worn, the beds are old, the bar/entertainment area hasn't been used in a long time and the bathroom was very basic. Your room isn't serviced during your stay other than to empty the bin and top up the tea and coffee and there's no fridge (or breakfast, or other meals). BUT the bedding was clean, the room was quiet, even with the window open and the staff were very helpful with directions and dealing with problems (our table lamps didn't work, they were replaced by the same evening). Not many other people were in the hotel during our stay which made the place quiet at night, which was good. Parking is limited but right outside the hotel and the low occupation helped here, we never lacked space to park. It's a bit of a throwback to the 1960s, but that could be said of the whole of the Isle of Wight! We had a comfortable stay, it was very inexpensive, you get what you pay for. so if you don't need pampering and can rough it to some degree, give it a try.

the hotel was deserted, no staff, the bar was shut, no entertainment, no breakfast,no evening meal if I wanted to book one,so all in all new year ruined. the phoned me and said the wanted to check my bank details because they were giving me a small refund but then took the full amount and no refund. if this is how they run an hotel and treat there guests then beware and avoid

Life at the Channel View hotel

When I arrived at this hotel I thought I had picked a winner, but when I went inside it all changed, there was nobody on the desk. After wandering about for half an hour or so still unable to find anybody I found the phone number and gave it a call. The lady that answered seemed a bit put out that I rang her but finally agreed to come and book me in. After a wait of about twenty minutes, she arrived and then it really started to go downhill. First no breakfast "not enough people" must then no bar, "not enough people" Then no evening meals why you quest it " not enough people" When I found my room I was pleasantly surprised, it was clean and tidy nice, apart from the shower door naming off and the water at a very fast drizzle. All in all, not one of my better picks

Bargain price

For the price I paid for the night, I was not upset with the hotel. Yes, the decor could do with a little work, but my room was clean and the bed was comfortable enough.
