Gareji is a complex of monasteries just on the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan. You'll see many amazing landscapes and also an interesting piece of history. #golden
Davit Gareji or David Garedzha Monastery is located in the Grasslands of Georgia, 2.5 hours South-East of Tbilisi. This place and the surrounding nature are a "different world" and worth visiting. The road via Sagarejo and Udabno has road signs, is easy to find and also good enough for 2-wheel drive. The road via Rustavi (stupidly suggested by Google maps) has no signs, requires GPS and a 4-wheel drive is recommended (we drove that dirt road on the way back to Tbilisi and we did not meet any car for 20 km). A nice young couple is running a small adventurous hotel in Udabno ("Oasis Club", www.oasisclubudabno.com) also offering Horse Riding Tours, etc.
July 2010 Border of Georgia and Azerbaydzan near David Garedji monastery and Udabno... Lots of caves where orthodox Christian monks were living for centuries

El alojamiento es mas que correcto por su precio, servicios, instalaciones y localización. Eso sí, la zona es algo ruidosa incluso de noche, así que conviene usar tapones. El desayuno está bien y por precio razonable (~9 €).

Nice hotel, great location
We stayed at Citadines for 3 nights…and we found it ot be great value... it’s a bit difficult to find as it is in an alley next to the Marriott Courtyard, however, the apart-hotel is nice, new, clean, fantastic location, the room was spacious but the bathroom was small…staff could be friendlier. ...

Half way between Telavi and Sighnaghi, 2 km South of Gurjaani is the church Kvelatsminda - an absolute "must see", if you pass by. The church was built in the 8th/9th century and features a long structure building topped by two domes. The interior is already a clear 3-hall basilica and the height is impressive! In Gurjaani you drive up-hill for 2km then park the car and walk down-hill for approx. 300m.

Alaverdi Monastery is situated 20km North-West of Telavi. The 56m high St. Georges Cathedral was built in the 11th century and was the highest building in whole Georgia at its time. The dimensions also today are impressive.
