“The Orr’s Island Cottage” is much more than a cottage. It is an enchanted and charming home boasting expansive views of Harpswell Sound. This is a well maintained, year-round home located on the shore of Harpswell Sound. Orr's Island, Maine is a peninsula connected by bridges to Harpswell and Brunswick- just 15 minutes from Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College and a great downtown area. The interior and exterior blend one into the other through sliding glass doors across the width of the home-opening onto multi-decking and stairs to the private waterfront, complete with floating walkways and dock- ideal for fishing, boating, kayaking and sunbathing. This open concept floor plan provides a natural flow from the fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and living room. The large fireplace, hardwood floors, wood ceilings, create a warm, charming, romantic, perfect vacation retreat. This cottage feels vintage with all the modern amenities, i.e. smart tvs, high speed wi-fi access and air conditioning. We also have books and DVDs for those that want to relax. Don't miss the breathtaking sunsets from the comfort of the house or the outside decks! Professionally designed and accessorized for your comfort. High quality linens are provided by owner.

For centuries Harpswell loberstermen and visitors of all ages have enjoyed our crystal clear salt waters as do those who kayak, canoe, sail and fish. Nature lovers enjoy hiking trails, beach combing, biking and bird watching. Savor the freshest lobster and award-winning seafood. Enjoy fine dining, tour art galleries, and craft studios.
We are located on Casco Bay and just a short scenic ride from Portland, Freeport, Bath, and Boothbay, Maine. Brunswick is serviced by the Downeaster.
We have over 13 walking trails, pocket beaches, national landmarks, historic sites and plenty of ocean views.
Orr's Island is known as the setting for Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1862 novel, The Pearl of Orr's Island; Bailey Island is known for its picturesque Mackerel Cove and Giant staircase and for the breathtaking views of open ocean and island filled bays.
Owner is a realtor and has been renting this home for many years.
We do accept personal checks and Homeaway payments.

Large complete kitchen with dishwasher great for large number of guests. Splits helpful but could use instructions for use. Rear deck with water view; furniture solid and heavy; but too large for us. Rear wooden stairs down to float too steep for us so not used, and not safe for children unless with an adult. Stairs to loft area bedroom and bathroom also too steep for us. Host very helpful. Beautiful sunsets!

Cosy house in a lovely setting

Enjoyed our stay. House cosy and warm. Situation is lovely with nice water views and easy swimming (even in October!). The area is great but be aware most things on the islands close by mid October. Well presented and stocked as a family home rather than casual rental. Might add some decent wine glasses! We would certainly consider a return visit from England.

Perfect location

This home has a beautiful view, and only minutes away from great hiking trails. Very cozy and has everything that you might need. Great kitchen fully stocked with pans, spices, new refrigerator and a washer and dryer. The owner manager was hands on and easy to talk to. I highly recommend this VRBO.

Beautiful waterfront stay in summer

We loved our stay and it was a perfect base for exploring the area during the day, and returning for peaceful happy hour/reading times with beautiful sunsets from the back deck overlooking the bay. We were a three-generation family and having the main bedroom with en suite bath on the same floor as the living area was a great plus for anyone concerned about ease of mobility. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and all beds really comfortable. Beautiful location and easy driving distance to hikes or walks on the island or in Harpswell, and we loved heading to Boothbay for the day. One thing to note is there is no restaurant or anything really on the island, but within 10 min there are a few restaurants, ice cream shop.

Highly recommend this property

Rental property was very clean and well stocked with just about everything you could think of -- all we needed was food. We particularly enjoyed the cabinet full of board games. Great access to the waterfront, and loved the three sliding/screen doors that opened onto to deck overlooking the water. I would stay there again, and absolutely recommend it to anyone.

Comfortable Maine stay - perfect for all weather!

Our stay was perfect. House was great and comfy for all types of weather. Kitchen is stocked and great for preparing family meals. We enjoyed gathering together at the table and fit perfect in the living room. Spent lots of time on the deck and down at the dock. Kids enjoyed playing outside and running around with lots of space and privacy. We loved our stay once again!

Gorgeous View, Gorgeous Weather

Location was perfect for us. Direct view of the cove with a floating dock. We set up chairs to read on the dock every day and enjoy the beautiful views. The house had everything we needed, including air conditioning! Only needed to use the units a couple of times, but appreciated that we had them. Close to Brunswick and Freeport for dining and shopping. Short drive to Cedar Beach and the Giant Stairs walking trail on Bailey a island.

Beautiful location and stay!

The house was excellent and offered everything you needed…a true home away from home experience. Kids loved playing outside and using the dock and had plenty of space. House was filled with all the essentials and then some. Great space to cook and share meals. Sunsets on the back deck were priceless. Quiet and relaxing setting

Our family (2 adults and 2 teens) loved our stay on Orr's Island! This property was very well equipped, perfectly appointed and very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the tranquil setting on the deck overlooking the cove. The kitchen was very well equipped and newly updated, making it very enjoyable to cook in. It had everything one could possibly need to prepare and serve meals! Families with teens should know that the nearest large beach with bigger waves is about a 45 minute drive (Popham Beach-absolutely beautiful and worth the pleasant ride). Renters should know that since this is an island property, residents use well water for their homes. During our stay, there was an odor associated with the running water. The property owner was very responsive and sent someone over right away to look at the filtration system. We appreciated the owner's prompt attentiveness. All in all, we absolutely loved this property and would return in the future!

Lovely house in a beautiful area

This house is located on the beautiful Orr's Island/ Bailey Island peninsula. Brunswick is an easy 20 minutes, as is the Harpswell peninsula. The kitchen is well stocked; linens and towels are very nice and plentiful. The house is very clean and the decor is perfect for a relaxing vacation. The view of Reed Cove is beautiful from the house and the many comfy chairs on the deck are great to take advantage of the views. The water in the house does have a constant sulfur smell. We had a problem with the hot water when we got there but the owner is responsive and her brother came over to fix things when needed. Note that the one single bed is in a loft so not good for small children who go to sleep earlier than the adults hanging out in the living spaces below (because of noise). Overall, we really enjoyed our two weeks.

Lynn's property is a beautiful property with a stunning view of the water. We needed a getaway to de-stress after covid, and this was just what we needed. If you are looking for a place, you will not find anything better.

Labor Day 2020

The home was very comfortable for my small family (myself, husband, and 21 month old son). It was the perfect setting to immerse ourselves in the beauty of Maine. Every time we looked out the back there was a Great Blue Heron. My son enjoyed going up and down (and up and down) the steps. We all feel rested and more connected after spending a week there. Highly recommend!

Wonderful week in Maine

We had a truly terrific week staying on Orrs Island. The house is in a beautiful location and was very comfortable. It was well equipped and immaculately clean. We loved being able to walk from the house to the Bowdoin Coastal Studies trails for hiking, under a mile away. We would definitely rent the house again - next time for at least 2 weeks - a week wasn’t enough!

Superb sunset views

The house is 30-40 feet above the beach so the views are fantastic of the changing tides and sunsets. A family of bald eagles was seen daily, and Canada Geese fly in each evening to roost in the bay. The back deck runs the entire length of the house, allowing for outdoor meals, reading, birdwatching, and just enjoying the views. Multiple hiking trails are within a short drive from the house as well, allowing for a daily walk in the woods and/or along the shoreline. I wish now we'd stayed 2 weeks instead of 1...

Wonderful Graduation Stay

Our family spent a long weekend at Lynn’s home over our daughter’s college graduation weekend. The home was a delight in every way. Close to the center of Brunswick but near the Giant’s Steps and other outdoor activities. Well appointed, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The home more than lives up to its online profile. We would stay again in a minute.
