Just an all-around nice experience. It was off season so not so crazy with people like the summer. The area has so much to offer regarding shops and restaurants and the hotel experience was pleasant and relaxing. I didn't get to walk the boardwalk, but will on my next stay.

Perfect vacation spot @

Perfect location right on the beach. We had a room with a view. Everyone there was pleasant and helpful. There was coffee and teas in the morning in the lobby. The room with 2 double beds and a refrigerator was perfect and it had a furnished balcony.

Amazing location & friendly staff

Excellent value and location very close to Asbury Park Boardwalk. Staff is extremely responsive and friendly. Felt very welcome. Located directly across the street from the beach abs very near Ocean Grove’s Main Street with has a bunch of shops and also some food options. Very quiet at night so recommend for those looking to relax.

I really liked being across the street from the ocean. Unfortunately I thought I had paid for a partial view of the water and our room didn't even have windows. There was a tiny porch that overlooked other toof tops.

I love the location of the Shawmont both to the shopping area as well as the beach. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Have stayed there several times and always plan on coming again.

Beautiful accommodations. Hotel is literally across the street from the ocean. The beach is pristine. The boardwalk is perfect for a stroll, bike ride or sitting on the bench to take in the ocean view. Parking is street parking. Free but can be challenging. I got lucky and found a prime spot on Ocean Ave. Main Street is a very short walk where some eateries, restaurants are located. Ashbury is also a short 5 -7 minute walk. More food options there as well. Lifeguards are on the beach (schedule depends on time of summer season). A beach pass needs to be purchased to use the beach while lifeguards are on duty. Shawmont Hotel provides a QR code plus password to qualify for a discount. Just in case, visitors are unfamiliar, Ocean Grove is a dry town. Ashbury is not. I enjoyed the tranquility Ocean Grove has to offer its visitors.
View from my room. I had an Oceanview room with terrace. This room is not ocean front. My mistake when booking. There are oceanfront rooms with a terrace.

Not the worst, but not the best…

My girlfriend and I stayed the weekend down the shore for our anniversary and stayed here for 2 nights. Staff was very nice, place was clean, and it was right next to the beach. However, the hook on the bathroom door was broken so we had no where to hang towels, the lights in the ceiling fan had 2 white and 1 yellow, the toilet barely flushed and made a very loud noise, room had no fridge, was very small, and had a weird odor when you first walked in. Also, the continental breakfast they offered was just bagels, muffins, and coffee. Overall, not worth the price I paid.

Just ok. The room has the necessities but no extras, and the look and feel of the space, especially the bathroom, is bare minimum. Beds were comfortable and air conditioner worked well. Not sure if this is just the price for the area but for the price point (almost $500 a night) we were expecting more. The location was very nice though, right next to the beach, so likely that’s what you’re paying for.

We stayed for two nights and, unfortunately, the experience was far from ideal. On the second night, there was no Wi-Fi or air conditioning. It was extremely hot, and the only fan available made an unbearable noise, making it almost impossible to sleep. Additionally, on the first morning I asked for some hot water and was told it wasn’t available because “the time to boil water” was over. I didn’t even understand what that means.

Not Happy

I have already reviewed this in detail but one more time: I booked my room through Hotels.Com with the understanding that they offered a breakfast. However when I called to check before we went, there was no breakfast offered at that time of year just coffee. I asked for a refrigerator in my room as I have food allergies, but they could not accomodate unless I got an upgraded room to the tune of 225.extra. The front desk clerk tried to help but I ended up in the same room as I was unwilling to pay that amount extra, and Hotels. Com would not cover the upgrade. So not happy with the lack of updated information website provided re: breakfast.

Incredible staff, clean room, great location. We had reserved a room with a king bed, we thought, but only got a double, and the air conditioning didn’t work well- that part would have been a lot more difficult to tolerate at a hotter time of year. There were so many positives on this stay though, it wasn’t really a big deal.

This hotel oozes style. It is warm and chic. The “basic” rooms make you feel like you’re at home in a NYC apartment. The green room staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Housekeeping was friendly and accommodating bringing more creamers into the room at a rapid rate….and YES !! …there are nespresso machines IN the room!! (As well as a Dyson hairdryer with multiple attachments). This hotel is 5 stars.
