Nationwide Arena

The Columbus Blue Jackets #CBJ and Nationwide Arena went all out as hosts of the 2014 NHL All-star Game. In addition to hosting the skills competition and the game itself, the NHL fan festival was held at the nearby convention center and the Arena District was turned into All Star Winter Park with a giant snow slide and an outdoor NHL regulation sized ice rink.

The IGS Energy blimp is a remote control blimp that flies around inside Nationwide Arena during intermissions of Columbus Blue Jackets hockey games. The blimp has a camera that films and projects fans on the giant Dispatch media center that hangs in the center of the arena. The blimp also drops prizes/coupons to eager fans via mini-parachutes.

The canon at Nationwide arena is a hand made replica of a 12-pounder Napoleon Model 1857, the primary cannon used in the American Civil War. The canon ties in with the Columbus Blue Jackets civil war themed branding. The canon is "fired" whenever the Blue Jackets take the ice at the start of the game, score a goal or win the game.

This arch is all that remains of Columbus Grand Union Station, the city's third and final train station.

Built in 1897 and designed by Daniel H. Burnham and Company of Chicago, the train station was located in the current footprint of the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

On October 22, 1976, demolition began despite having been listed on the National Register of Historic Places two years earlier. A restraining order federal judge George Smith halted demolition, but it was too late and only one arch of the ornate structure was saved.

In 1999, the arch in its entirety was slowing inched over several blocks to its current location at Dimon McPherson Commons in the Arena District.
