    This centrally located home is blocks from McHenry's downtown district bars, shops, ice cream, restaurants, coffee, antique shops, and live theater entertainment.

    Whether you want to relax indoors, lounge on the huge decks, take our kayaks out, soak in the private hot tub, or golf down the block --you're covered!

    Enjoy style and comfort with classic 1920s architecture and woodwork mixed with modern amenities.

    Heading into the neighborhood from downtown you'll pass by the beautiful golf country club and wind through streets covered with 100-year-old oak trees as you catch your first glimpses of the river before arriving at your retreat.

    Enter the front door to the cozy den / office / TV area and continue toward the back of the house through the fully equipped kitchen with Keurig coffee maker, dishwasher and dining area. Next, pass into the great room with fireplace and a jaw-dropping expansive view of the back decks, dock, and shimmering riverfront.

    The house allows convenient separation of different families (or peace and quiet from the children) with one large bedroom and bathroom downstairs and two bedroom and bath upstairs.

    Driveway parking accommodates up to four vehicles; no overnight street parking.

    A walk or quick bike ride 1/2 mile to downtown McHenry with bars, shops, nightlife, and Metra train service to Chicago.

    The Fox River connects by waterway to the Chain O'Lakes with access to beaches, boating, swimming, beach, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and more. Tour the river and stop off at a number of bars and restaurants with boat parking.

    Nearby beaches, marinas, Blarney's Island, Volo Auto Museum, roller skating, movie theater, horseback riding, farmers market, pumpkin patches, apple picking, walking trails, nearby parks and nature areas, and more.

We had an amazing stay at Matt's house! The place had a beautiful view and it was so peaceful! A great place to unwind yet still access the craziness of Chicago. We would recommend and even stay again!

We absolutely loved our stay! 6 adults and our dog for a week and we had so much space! The extra living room at the front could have even slept a few more people comfortably. Caught so many fish right from the dock! Best communication from our host when there were a few issues and he fixed them IMMEDIATELY, which is fantastic when renting a home. Highly recommend!

The house was just as pictured. All the rooms were clean. Matt, the host, was quick to respond to our texts that we had about the property. Our family of five had plenty of room both inside and outside for activities and being together. Thank you Matt!

Matt is very responsive to all our inquiries. Had family visit and the space was very accommodating. Relaxing just to sit and watch the boats go by, though was surprised by the speed they passed by.

Lovely home Location Was Perfect....The Town Is close and Tons Of Delicious Food It was So peaceful We enjoyed the boats going by and the fish jumping and the birds enjoying their flight ....It was Paradise to us..

Starting with the positives: the sheets were really soft, the waterfront was beautiful & the house did have a lot of charm. The negatives: the bathrooms & lack of maintenance . After a 5 minute shower in the downstairs bathroom, I was standing in water up to my ankles. Thankfully 2 bottles of Drano fixed that. But it was difficult to get the water to the right temp without burning yourself. There was mildew/ mold forming on the ceiling in the bathroom, dust/dirt in the corners of the bathroom floor, and the spot where you pour fabric softener in the washing machine looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or wiped out in years. I would not book here again.

Memorial Day Weekend

We had an excellent time! The property was very clean and in a nice neighborhood near town. The outdoor area was wonderful! We sat in the hot tub and watched the boats on the river.Matt was very responsive to my questions. We will be back!

The house is a quaint river front home. The beds were so comfortable. The pier and river access is fantastic with a boat.

Family getaway

Stayed here for weekend. Enjoyed the patio area, pontooning, relaxing. Checked out some shops, had a great time. We lucked out, the weather was perfect the whole time. Neighbors to the left are super nice as well.

Amazing riverfront location in a small cute town

Loved the place. Outdoor area is beautiful, great house to spend relaxing weekend with friends and family. Host provided everything needed, the house is clean and spacious. Definitely recommend! Also loved that I could stay there with my dog, there not that many great placed to book that allow pets

Beautiful respite

We had the pleasure to stay here for 5 days and what a wonderfully cozy home! Everything was so easily comfortable, all is exactly as posted, the location on the water is incredibly peaceful, the hot tub is a huge plus, and our stay was completely enjoyable. The owner was extremely responsive throughout the booking and even easily helped us extend our stay by a day (how much we liked it!). Highly recommend!

Wonderful stay, exceeded expectations

Such an awesome location, beautiful home, yard right on the river. Very safe and nice neighborhood, warm and welcoming neighbors! My kids were able to fish from the dock with ease, caught quite a few fish. The hot tub and fun collection of DVDs, games and books were a big bonus Super comfortable for everyone, including our two dogs. Definitely a wonderful place to stay.

Beautiful Riverfront Setting!

Overall wonderful stay at this spacious property! River views, kayaking, relaxing on the deck, soaking in the hot tub, enjoying family time! Kids had a ball and bringing the dog was such a nice add. The owner was great and super responsive. The bathrooms could use a bit of updating, but beds were comfy and the kitchen was well-stocked.Highly recommend!!

Relaxing retreat

The house was very clean and smelled nice. The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable, however the upstairs got a little hot so bring a personal fan. Matt was very responsive to any questions we had. The water right off the dock had a bunch of little clams with sharp edges so make sure to bring water shoes if you’re jumping in! Also the elderly couple on the left had the cutest dog named Emma who loved all the pets. We will definitely be back!!

A riverfront charmer indeed! And the house is nice too

Matt is a breath of fresh air. He is charming, responsive, helpful, knows the area, & he & his wife have done an amazing job with this old but beautifully updated property. THE HOUSE: Cozy w/room for 7 plus seating for guests. Bedrooms are COMFORTABLE. The bathrooms were great, very functional, with enough towels for everyone. INDOOR FUN: TVs where you needed them with a Blu-Ray player & plenty of movies, Matt & his wife have great taste in movies in my humble opinion. Games for the family, a small selection but good. An eclectic book collection, kids enjoyed Garfield while we all enjoyed The Far Side. OUTDOOR FUN:A caveat – this is a river so there’s green stuff on the edge. It won’t hurt you. We loved the kayaks. The dock ladder was loose when we were there, but it is probably already fixed– without that ladder, it’s hard to get out of the water. We jumped off the end of the docks, but not too far (fast boats). We chose to go to Peterson Park Beach for the inflatables (bring cash) HOT TUB: Very pleasant. If you leave the cover off when it’s cool outside, the hot tub will get cool. When you’re not in the water, put the cover back on. Nicely lighted so as to not wreck your night vision. RESPONSIVENESS: We asked about a DVD/Blu-Ray player night before we arrived. It & movies were there. We asked how to rent boats, we had a list & he bought the two kayaks. When we had a concern or question, he responded, even came during our second day to fix stuff. Great place to stay & play!
