Lucca is a charming medieval town which preserves an important patrimony of history and culture. It is an ideal spot to spend your holidays.
The city disposes of a enviable position – only a few minutes from the beaches of the Versilia away and from Pisa (airport) and about 30 minutes from Florence. You may leave your car at home and reach easily Lucca by train or car and then explore whole Tuscany. This cosy and characteristic apartment is located in the heart of the centre which allows you to discover the centre by bicycle or on foot.
The old town of Lucca has a special flair, which attracts every year thousands and thousands of tourists.
Lucca could protect over all the years its arts treasures thank to its town wall; to mention are for example: the amphitheatre, the dome of San Martino and the wonderful church of San Michele or “palazzo Pfanner” which was chosen for film sets, because of its beauty, by many film directors, i.e. “portrait of a lady” by Jane Campion with Nicole Kidman.
Lucca is also known to be the city of birth of the well-known opera writer Giacomo Puccini, which is appreciated in the whole world! There are many cultural events (concerts, exhibitions), all year over, which are dedicated to the Maestro. Torre del Lago is only 25 km from the historical centre of Lucca – the composer lived there many years – an open-air theatre was built, which is the yearly host of the Puccini opera festival.

The apartment is situated on the 3rd floor of an antique “palazzo” (not suitable for disabled people) in short distance to the famous Guinigi Tower and Via Fillungo (main shopping lane): entrance, kitchen with big fire,place, stove, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, 1 bathroom with wc, basin, living room with 1 double bed settee, TV, within a few steps access to a terrace (about 10 sqm) equipped with a table, chairs and deckchair. 1 double bedroom with air conditioning, 1 bathroom with shower, wc, bidet, washing machine. The apartment is furnished tastefully, in country style with beamed ceilings, walls coloured joyfully in pastel colours.

Die Lage der Wohnung ist unschlagbar, die Kommunikation mit der Agentur gut. Einrichtung ist Retro, passend zum Stil der Stadt. Wir waren mit Kindern unterwegs und es hat öfter geregnet, weshalb wir öfter in der Wohnung sein mussten und selber gekocht haben. Die Küche hat einen guten Gasherd, Elektroofen und Spülmaschine. Ansonsten war sie überfrachtet von einer Mischung aus ein paar neuen und unzähligen alten abgegriffen Haushaltssachen, Häkeldeckchen etc. Da sollte unbedingt mal jemand durchgehen. Ich finde dass mag man höchstens bei der eigenen Oma. Wir waren 5 Nächte da und es wurden uns bei der Übergabe nach ablesen der Zähler 65 Euro für Strom und Heizung abgenommen. Ich kann mir kein Szenario vorstellen, bei dem das gerechtfertigt wäre.

Lucca is a stunning city. If you enjoy exploring narrow streets and historic places, you'll love it. Traffic is very restricted within the walls, so it feels virtually pedestrianised and you can wander freely. Nowhere felt unsafe, even at night. There are bars, cafes and restaurants in abundance, from cheap and cheerful to expensive and sophisticated. There are lots of shops to enjoy too - all the high street shops you'd expect but also many more independent shops than we have in the UK now. Everywhere we went, we found the local people to be friendly and helpful, despite our pitiful language skills. We travelled from Pisa airport by train - which was very easy and inexpensive. Given that cars are so restricted in the city centre, it's a good option. With regards to the flat, I'd say you need to know two key things. Firstly, only the bedroom has air-con. We visited during July and in a heatwave. It was very hot and we followed the example of the locals by retreating to the flat during the afternoon. However, we couldn't relax in the living room or kitchen because they were much too hot (over 28C). Secondly, the flat is on the 3rd floor and up 53 steps. We're not unfit but it can seem a long way when you're hot and your feet are killing you. I would certainly consider staying in the flat again, at a cooler time of year. The rooftop terrace is lovely and the flat was very clean and spacious. The local agency staff were also very friendly and efficient.

Although I’ve never provided a negative review before, this was likely the worst VRBO experience we’ve had. The apartment was dark, poorly lit, and a bit funky. In 3 nights we took 2 cold showers, with the water completely ruining fry once. Finally, the contract contained multiple extra charges not advertised online.

Exactly as pictured and wonderful communication made for a perfect stay. The terrace was perfect! But know the top floor location means lots of stairs, also linens, towels and electricity are all extra charges.
