Mattress was worn out. Had glitter on my face when I woke up suggesting not actually changed sheets.

Friendly family business, good value. Comfortable bed and hot shower which was exactly what I needed after 18 hours of international travel. I stayed 2 nights in late September to attend a wedding in nearby Ripponden. The room was quite chilly but I actually like sleeping in a cold room. A space heater was provided, though I didn’t use it as the bed was cosy enough. It was handy that they served food downstairs and I really appreciated the vegetarian/vegan selections including veggie sausages for my bangers and mash dinner and full breakfast in the morning! Downsides to be mindful of: Noise carries a lot and the doors to the rooms are quite heavy and loud when being opened and closed, so keep this in mind if you are a light sleeper like me. I could hear snoring from another room at night and a TV/radio at 6am. Luckily I travel with earplugs so it wasn’t an issue for me. The bathroom has two taps, one scalding and one freezing (common in UK), not ideal for washing hands/face. The food was not the best quality (probably microwaved or from packages) so don’t expect gastropub standards but it got the job done and saved me having to figure out where to get a hot meal or find a takeaway. The bathroom wasn’t the cleanest (a couple of stray hairs in the shower and some dust/grime on the back of the toilet) and there was only the end of a loo roll (which I didn’t realise until the middle of my last night!) - nothing awful but probably the once-over between guests was skipped.

The New Hobbitt Hotel was the first time we'd used a self checking facility and it was very efficient. We didn't really see any staff, other than in passing with housekeeping staff but rooms were very clean and well maintained. Beds were comfortable, water in the newly refurbished bathroom / shower was hot and towels were fluffy. The bottles of water, instant porridge and croissants were not expected but very welcome. There was plenty of parking. We would recomend this hotel and would be happy to stay again. Please note, the route from Sowerby Bridge town centre to the New Hobbit Hotel includes very steep hills and tight corners but the view is worth it!
