Casa unifamiliar de tres dormitorios situada a unos metros de la orilla del lago Carloway (lago del mar). Recientemente renovado, se encuentra en la posición perfecta en la costa oeste de la isla para visitar sitios históricos como Callanish Standing Stones y Carloway Broch. También en el pueblo se encuentran las famosas Casas Negras de Garenin, que dan una indicación de cómo vivían los isleños en días pasados. Hay dos playas fantásticas (Dalmore y Dalbeg) a 5 minutos en coche y algunos impresionantes paseos por el interior y la costa accesibles desde la propiedad. Hay muchos lagos de truchas en la localidad y pesca de salmón en el río Carloway (permisos disponibles del Carloway Angling Club). La pesca en el mar, la pesca en la playa y la pesca en el muelle también son actividades populares.

La propiedad ha sido recientemente renovada con una nueva cocina, baño, pisos de madera nuevos y alfombras en todas partes. Hay 2 habitaciones dobles, una con cama de matrimonio y la otra con dos camas individuales. Un tercer dormitorio tiene literas ideales para niños. Una cuna también está disponible.

Al realizar la reserva es esencial verificar que si trae un automóvil hay espacio en el ferry, ya que en verano tienden a estar bien reservados.

No hay tienda ni gasolinera en Carloway. Los más cercanos están en Barvas o Cameron Terrace / Leurbost, donde puede obtener una buena selección de alimentos, vinos y licores, y ambos tienen
gasolina / diesel. También llevan una amplia gama de otros productos, desde repelente de mosquitos. Hay cañas de pescar para usar, muebles de playa y numerosos juguetes para niños guardados en el garaje separado. Wi Fi también está disponible y equipo de pesca para equipos de surf (Barvas). En Stornoway hay dos supermercados: Tesco cerca de la terminal del ferry y Coop al salir de la ciudad hacia el lado oeste.

El Doune Braes Hotel ofrece comidas (mejor reservar) y comida para llevar. Cuenta con bar y salón. Forty North (Bragar) hace lo mismo, pero debes reservar para llevar y recoger. Los menús para Doune Braes y Forty North están en la carpeta, pero pueden estar sujetos a cambios.

Por supuesto, hay una amplia selección de restaurantes en Stornoway: An Lanntair tiene un chef de primera clase en Kenny Mackay y se recomienda Digby Chick. ¡No pase la tienda de pescado y papas fritas de Cameron sin probar!

Moverse

Un coche es esencial

Transportar:
La mayoría de la gente viaja a Lewis por mar usando Caledonian McBrayne. Operan servicios dos veces al día desde Ullapool a Stornoway, o alternativamente operan un cruce de ferry más corto entre Uig (Isla de Skye) y Tarbert (Harris). Las tarifas de Ferry son realmente competitivas en lugar de volar y alquilar un automóvil.

Carloway está a unas 24 millas de Stornoway y a unas 45 millas de Tarbert. Siga las indicaciones para Càrlabhagh (Carloway) en la A858. Recuerde buscar el nombre gaélico en las señales de tráfico. Cuando llegas a Carloway, pasas el único paso elevado en las Islas Occidentales y giras a la izquierda en dirección al muelle señalizado Cidhe Càrlabhagh. Siga el camino hacia la derecha y es la última casa a la derecha con una distintiva puerta roja de garaje.

Volador:
El único aeropuerto de la isla está en Stornoway. Flybe opera vuelos diarios a Stornoway desde Inverness, Glasgow y Edimburgo. Eastern Airways opera vuelos, de lunes a viernes, a Stornoway desde Aberdeen.

The house was in a nice area near Carloway. You have views of the water from the front of the house. The instructions that were sent prior to arriving were very detailed. Being an older house and next to the sea, it is very understandable that we could smell a lot of mold in the house. It was so strong it made both of us feel unwell. If you are susceptible to mold, I would contact the owner to see what remedy that have done. We did not contact the owner about the issue during our 3 night stay as we know there was nothing they could do to fix it.

Very clean, perfectly appointed small cottage in quiet location. Close to the highway for access to elsewhere on the island. Hosts were very helpful and responsive, including leaving us a welcome snack. They had a binder full of local activities/recommendations. The kitchen had all the amenities you could wish for. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a holiday on Lewis. The rooms are spacious, the community shop is near by, and there a many places to walk. It’s like home away from home and the perfect place to explore the isle of Lewis.

We came in late but had a very warm and nice welcom and good and helpful contact with the owner. The house was complete with everything you need, and for the first evening and morning there also was some food present. We had a stay of only 3 nights, but would have liked to stay longer. Hope to come back in future.

Kenny and Mairi were fantastic at communicating and making sure we found Lithir with perfect directions. The home was better than we imagined and the children loved all the hidden gems of toys, games, puzzles, maps, books and more. The views were beautiful and the house so cosy. We wish we could have stayed longer.

What's not to like? A very comfortable cottage by the side of the loch in Carloway, We were all very comfortable and spoiled by the well-equipped kitchen, ideal for self-catering. Plenty of instruction books for those not familiar with induction hobs, lots of reading material about the locale, nice to have the well-stocked community shop nearby. A wonderful place to stay as a base for Lewis and Harris. Thank you!

This was our second holiday at this cosy, homely cottage. Mairi is so thoughtful - everything was provided, and there was also a lovely welcome pack on our arrival. Beds are very comfortable, and this location is incredibly quiet, so you are guaranteed a perfect night's sleep. The wildlife on Lewis is amazing - this year we actually watched Black-throated Divers courting on the loch whilst sat at the dining table, and then 3 Cuckoos in a chase around the trees in the front garden, plus Corncrakes calling at night. Amazing. This year we brought our kayaks, and I have to say that Lithir is about as good as it gets as a kayaking location. You can store your kayak in the garage on its trolley, just roll down the drive, then the slipway is about 30 metres along the road. You can then explore the inner loch if the weather's dodgy, otherwise paddle out beyond Carloway harbour and the world's your oyster. Also worth a mention is the local Carloway Community Shop and café. This is about 2 minutes away and provides pretty much everything you'll need, with very friendly and helpful staff, and saving you driving back to Stornoway for a groceries top-up. All in all, if you want Hebridean hospitality in the best location for exploring Lewis, come to Lithir.

The location of the cottage in Carloway is great for exploring the island of Lewis, it’s archeological sites, many walks and hikes. There is a well stocked shop in town for anything you need. The house is cozy and peaceful looking out on the loch in front. The kitchen has good supplies for cooking. It is the perfect place for rest and renewal in the beauty of the western isles, and also as a base for outdoor activities.

The cottage is perfectly situated for hiking and close to some of the best local attrations. The nearby store has everything you need and more allowing for easy grocery shopping. The home itself is spacious and comfortable with a very well equipped and modern kitchen and cozy living room. The views from the cottage are stunning. A wonderful visit.

My mother and I had a wonderful stay at the cottage. So quiet and peaceful with the cottage provided with everything you need to make life comfortable. After we left we realised my mother had left behind her hearing aids. We contacted Mairi who posted them that day. They arrived home before my mother!! Thanks for a wonderful visit.

Lithir is an individual 50's bungalow in, for us, a very good location, with the loch immediately over the very quiet road, and the only sounds those of the local birdlife. The accommodation was practical and comfortable, and having use of the garage was very helpful, as we hired a kayak during our stay. The outlook from the bungalow was very scenic, with excellent views from 3 of the rooms. The opening of the new Carloway community shop, only 2 minute's drive away, was a major convenience, as it saved driving back to Stornoway for many daily essentials. The store is extremely well stocked, and I would highly recommend its patronage. We fell in love with Lewis - the coastal scenery is stunning, and the wildlife exceptional - we had very good views of otters, both British eagles, a pod of 8 Orcas, Minke Whales and very much more. All in all, we had a lovely stay here, and are very eager to return.

We had such an amazing time on the Isle of Lewis and renting this cottage greatly enhanced the experience. The family who owns this property were helpful, communicated promptly and the cottage itself was so comfortable and quaint. Added bonus, it seemed to be centrally located for what we wanted to do. I highly recommend renting this property!

I'm so glad I found this house when searching for accommodation. From the outset, communication with Mairi & Kenny was spot on. As soon as you enter the house, you can see it's well looked after & spotlessly clean. I found everything I needed in the lovely new kitchen. There was even an air fryer. There was a lovely welcome card, yummy nibbles and fresh flowers waiting for us. A nice touch. The bedrooms are a good size with plenty storage & hanging space for clothes. The beds are comfortable, the bedding soft, lovely soft bath towels and best of all, electric blankets! Carloway is well placed to tour the islands. The setting on the loch is stunning & the stars magical. I would, and have recommended to friends & family. We will definitely book again. Thanks Mairi & Kenny.

We just stayed for 3 nights in this delightful cottage by the loch in a very pretty setting. For us it is perfectly situated to explore the west coast of Lewis and Stornoway and the east coast is easy to get to. We were warmly greeted with a lovely card, fresh eggs, oatcakes and crowdie which we'd never had, absolutely yummy! Easy instructions for heating etc. The kitchen is well equipped but kitchen cupboard space is a bit limited if you are staying for a week or two, we do not travel light! The sitting room is comfodtbale and has a gorgoeus view, large dining table and giant TV, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploration. The bathroom is immaculate and the bed we slept in extremely comfortable. The garage is full of all sorts of beach and barbeque equipment and there are also loads of toys in the house to entertain children and adults on those wet days in. All communications with Mairi and Kenny were warm and friendly. We loved our stay at Lithir and hope to stay again in the future!

We had regular contact with Mairi so we knew if we needed anything she'd be there, but this little cottage was so well equiped there was nothing we could want. Lithir is set in a beautiful valley overlooking the water. You can watch as the tide comes and goes and see the various wildlife that comes and goes with it. Ideal for exploring both Lewis and Harris and not far from Stornoway for fuel and groceries. Just a lovely little cottage.

Lovely traditional cottage on the North Lewis coast. Very near some nice beaches and historical sites. We travelled to the Harris end quite a lot to enjoy the hills and up to the Uig area but driving on the island was very easy so we're very happy with our base. All Comms with the owners was spot on - thanks a lot for having us!
