"We enjoyed our stay in Hilo. The apartment is the ground floor of Ingrid's family home, and has its own separate entrance. Having been to Hilo before, we didn't feel we needed a fancy tourist vacation destination lodging location, for a place to stay. So a simple and homey place, that was part of an actual home, in a suburban neighborhood, worked fine for us. It was cozy, clean, and comfortable. "It was a lovely place to stay, the host was great, answered all my questions and the place was very clean. A very safe residential neighborhood, the highway is a little bit away, but the ocean is closer and every day you can go out on your balcony/porch and watch the whales and the dolphins."

"This was a wonderful place to stay. The grounds are absolutely incredible!!! The birds, frogs and insects provide such a soothing/calming background. Wandering the grounds, you can find a sitting area that overlooks a small koi pond. When I was there, there were so many flowers in bloom. I would highly recommend this as a location to stay!!"

"The cottage is in a quiet neighborhood. You need a car to get there but its not far from downtown. The garden in front of the cottage is an impeccable oasis of tropical plants and birds, frogs and a koi pond. The inside matches the images from website and surpassed my expectations. The host is kind and gracious. You have your own parking spot and if you are returning at night there are lights on the path to the cottage. I can not wait to come back and stay there."

"Lovely spot. Beautiful grounds. Unique Old Hawaiian motif. The owners put their love and pride into their units. I think there are 3 -4 units in the home but all were not occupied, so it was fairly quiet. The frogs block out any noise at night. They were very loud, but we loved their sounds! It could use a deep cleaning, and newer spices, condiments, and pans, but for the price it was a good value."

"We loved our stay in the downstairs apartment with our own outside terrace overlooking the garden. It was spacious with a comfortable sofa bed in the living room for extra people. It was great to have our own kitchen and to have a big jar of coffee provided to kickstart each day. It’s not far from the Volcano Park with easy access to Hilo. Thoroughly recommend staying here."

"The house was a roomy older house, conveniently located 5 minutes from downtown Hilo. Overall, the house was terrific. The only drawback was the shower stall and showerhead. The shower flow was insufficient. A hand-held shower head would be better!"

"We only stayed for 3 nights, but Karla's place was in the perfect location for exploring the East Coast of the Big Island and Volcanoes National Park. Karla met us when we arrived and introduced us to her cottage. Her pride of ownership shows both in talking with her and also in all the little things about the cottage that made staying here very convenient and comfortable. "This little place is just yards away from the waves crashing into the lava cliffs and the ocean breeze keeps the air moving. The living space was very clean and comfortable. It is unique accommodations as the toilet and shower are in a detached bath house. The neighborhood is very quiet and lovely. There are no services super close by, and the kitchenette is minimal, so beyond coffee and warm ups, do not plan to cook. Who wants to cook on vacation?!! "It is a great place to stay with minimal accommodations. If you are spending your days adventuring the island, it gives you a place to come back to and get some rest, a shower and a cooler to keep food in so you can save money by not eating out all the time. They provide the ice for free in frozen bottles. They request quiet guests as the rooms are right next to one another. So when you do come back to rest and clean up, you actually can. So you can be ready for the next days adventures where...

"Driving there can be tough if you’re coming from Hilo between 4-6pm on a weekday. Also headed to Hilo in the morning is rough. Plan accordingly. The room is epic. If you catch a strong wind or storm during your stay, it’s almost intimidating. The waves are right there. We don’t think we could have picked a better location for what we were looking for.
