House of the Grouse - Charming River-side Cabin and Sauna!


(In May of 2024, we finished building a wood-fired sauna and off- grid shower building at this property. Hope you'll like it!)

For those who truly enjoy hiking the Northern forests or sitting along the rushing rivers, this is a good place to be. Unplug and relax in this unique and beautifully secluded cottage along the Fall River with acres of woods surrounding you. Open the windows of this off-grid haven and listen to the birds and babbling river below. Immersed in nature, but completely comfortable. Away from everything, yet only three miles from Grand Marais!

Absolutely wonderful! Brought my boyfriend up for a surprise birthday present. He had no idea what our destination was, so he was shocked when we arrived. He loved it. It was quaint and quiet and just what we needed to get a break from our hectic city lives. We are already looking at booking another stay for the fall!

Beautiful cabin in secluded woods

We couldn’t have asked for a better place out in the woods. Accommodations were amazing. Lots of fun details all thought of before we arrived. The stream close to the fireplace was delightful. The Sauna was enjoyable felt so good. I’ve never slept so good with the fresh air. We will be back!

A short easy hike in and a sweet reward of a well maintained treasure in the pines near a river and complete solitude. immaculate and Well equipped and battery and solar lighting--no electric but everything you need is there. Propane stove. Old well iced- ice box--plenty of fresh water, towels, firewood, dishes and nice porch with a sweet smelling compost toilet. I guess there is a sauna and shower nearby but I did not use it. Five stars and value priced.

Peace and Quiet

What a lovely little house! We enjoyed our stay and both the interior and exterior of the house were well thought out and made for a pleasant visit. As it was September we needed to use the woodstove for heat, and it really kept us cozy! The outdoor firepit was great as well.

Nice Wilderness Spot

Clean cozy spot close to town. Short hike in to the house provides for a secluded spot of your own. Carts provided fit a standard cooler for hauling in food. Owners responsive with help and answering questions.

Well, we didn’t see a grouse but that was okay! The cabin is really great. Quiet times, very private in the woods. Definitely a camping experience off grid with a bit of a walk but we knew that. We had a problem with lights and Justin responded immediately and came to fix right away. He even brought lights from his son to help. Really a fun place to stay for a new experience. Highly recommend and enjoyed this lovely cabin.

Quaint rustic cabin

Adorable place! Easy hike in- which made it all the more off the grid. Nestled in the trees, safe and sheltered in a very clean accommodations. Simple design. Easy to use compost toilet— very clean! I loved the lighting up in the loft. Super great mattress, too! The indoor swing was an added bonus. Delightful stay!

Excellent Stay!

We'd definitely do it again! We saw the grouse and got to watch him drum. We heard moose even if we didn't get to see them. The cabin itself is very nice! Good job you guys!
