Our traditional cottage is situated at the foothill of the Asterousia Mountains south Heraklion , offering an astonishing view of the Messara Valley.This peaceful location can become your springboard for exploring historical sites and places of unique beauty in the area. You can choose between hopping off on a few minutes’ drive to the world famous archaeological site of Phaistos (22 Km) and Gortyna (12 km) or enjoying the wonderful golden-sand beaches of Tripiti (12 km), Matala (30 km), Lentas (20 km), and Kalamaki (33 km).
International airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” in Heraklion is 62 km away.
In Stavies you will get to know the renowned Cretan hospitality and the local traditions. Many local events are held throughout the year. You will find traditional “Kafeneia” offering coffee, beverages and food, mini-markets, meat-markets, fruit-markets, a gas station and a pharmacy. In the nearby town of Moires (only 19 km away), there is a traditional open street market every Saturday and also banks, shops and a Health center. Your hostess Doris can inform you about unique routes in area and local festivals also.

This is a cozy Cretan house, offering absolute relaxation and is able to accommodate 4 people in 58 sqm of interior space and a large garden of 200 sqm. The modern but with a traditional Cretan character cottage is fully renovated with natural materials like stone, wood, ceramics and many handicrafts. It has two bedrooms, a living room with a kitchen, a bathroom with real stone and is surrounded by a beautiful private garden with a grapevine and a pomegranate tree. Imagine waking up in the morning and enjoying your breakfast in a paradise of beautiful colours and refreshing smells. Experience the original Mediterranean outdoor living while eating at the outdoor dining table or relaxing on the two comfortable sofas and WiFi is available

It is fully equipped with all the essential appliances and more, such us a TV, a fridge, an electric cooker, an iron, a toaster, a coffee maker, a juicer, a kettle, a clothes washing machine, a hair dryer, baby crib and high chair. The amenities also include a WC with a shower and parking space. We also offer a bottle of wine and a bottle of extra virgin olive oil of our family production.

A car is necessary in order to explore the area because there is no local bus service between the local villages but only from and to the main cities.
All our guests are provided with free bikes to have an unforgettable experience among the unspoiled olive groves and vineyards of the area.

Einen so schönen Urlaub hatten wir selten. Doris war eine wunderbare Gastgeberin. Sie hat uns viele Tips für Ausflüge in der Umgebung gegeben. Im Ferienhaus war soweit alles vorhanden. Wir werden auf alle Fälle wiederkommen. Elke und Michael

Maison en pierre agréable, contenant tout le nécessaire. Emplacement intéressant comme point de départ pour visiter le sud de la Crète : sites archéologiques superbes (Gortyna, Phaistos), plages (Matala, Kommos), escapades en montagne (sud de l'Ida, Dikta, Asterousias). Très bon accueil, avec dégustation de produits à base d'olives.

Die Unterkunft ist liebevoll, farbenfroh und detailreich eingerichtet und hat einen kleinen Blumengarten. An einigen Stellen war der Fokus eher auf Dekor als auf Funktion gelegt, aber das ist Geschmackssache. Die Basics waren alle vorhanden, außerdem gab es zur Begrüßung einige Leckereien, inkl. Wein und örtliches Olivenöl. Verbrauchsmaterialien sowie hochwertige Kosmetikprodukte waren ebenfalls vorhanden. Begrüßung und Betreuung vor Ort waren herzlich. Das WLAN war ausgezeichnet und schnell. Die Mini-Küche ist wirklich sehr klein. Besteck, Kochgeschirr und Zubereitungsplatz ist auf ein Minimum begrenzt und erlaubt keine großen Küchenzaubereien, für ein Frühstück oder Spaghetti aber völlig ausreichend. Das Haus und Terasse ist südexponiert und recht windgeschützt, es gibt nur wenig Schatten im kleinen Garten. Bei Sonne und Wärme wird es schnell warm, auch unter der überdachten Terasse. Gute Fenster mit Fliegengitter erlauben aber nachts mit offenen Fenstern zu schlafen. Eine Klimaanlge gibt es nicht. Die Hausumgebung und der Ort ist im Vergleich zu anderen ländlichen Regionen Kretas meiner Meinung nach etwas trostlos. Der beschriebene Blick auf die Berge erhebt sich hinter einer Hausruine und ist so spektakulär wie in allen anderen Gegenden der Messara-Ebene auch. Der Ort ist touristisch unbedeutend, es gibt es eine Tankstelle, Mini-Markt, Apotheke und Kafenions, im Nachbarort (5 min Auto) eine nette Taverne. Fazit: Guter Stützpunk für Ausflüge in die Umgebung, (Ausgrabungen der Messara-Ebene, Wanderungen in den Asterrousia-Bergen, abgelegene Badeorte an der Südküste, z.B. Lentas) mit sehr gutem Preis-Leistuns-Verhältnis mit landestypisch überdurchschnitlicher Ausstattung

We (my wife and I) came from Heraklion in Stavies at 22:00. Before, we had contact via SMS and sent a message to the contact person Doris that we should arrive within 15 minutes. She was waiting for us and showed the way to 'our' house. That was a good start! We hired the house for 10 days. It was a convenient place with all the things we wished (for example, an excellent working WiFi). The garden and space around the house, the privacy, the possibility to ask things to Doris, it was a good choice to rent this house! We had a nice stay!
