Spectacular Spirit Dancer 4 bedrooms, 1 den w/bed, Luxurious on 60 private acres


Large, rustic, & luxurious are words seldom used together, but accurately describes Spirit Dancer Lodge. A luxurious, energizing, rejuvenating, and romantic get-away far removed from the stresses of city life. We're on 60 private acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Shenandoah Valley. Upon your arrival, you will receive four free wine tastings at a nearby winery. We offer 4000 square feet of living space with queen beds in two of the four, spacious bedrooms with a soaking tub and shower in the master bedroom and two twins in the other bedroom on the main floor. A large, closed-in loft area has four twin beds. All rooms have large windows to let the outside in.

The great room has a huge stone fireplace, dining room and kitchen, all open together and has floor to ceiling windows with prowl front and Brazilian cherry hardwood floors. The deck includes a gas grill and an outdoor chiminea great for s'mores and dinner! Downstairs, you'll find our sauna room (5 person) with a futon, 18 foot stone bar, game room, 62 inch TV and a smaller private den with a queen and additional futon for more guests comfort. ****The house sleeps 12, but can hold up to 14/15 comfortably if using the futon areas as well.

The interior house is specially designed in southwest decor.

We're located in Etlan, VA, just off Virginia's Route 231, one of America's ten most outstanding scenic byways (Great for biking!). We back up to Shenandoah National Park & Old Rag Mountain, which offer numerous scenic hiking trails. We have a stocked pond for 'catch & release' only, however, there's recreational trout fishing nearby on the Rose, Hughes and Rapidan Rivers. Visit many, outstanding wineries, cheese factories, historic sites, civil war battlefields, Luray caverns, historic Monticello and the lovely town of Charlottesville. Antique shop, bike, hike or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery and numerous wildlife.

The Lodge is ideal for family gatherings, small family weddings, corporate retreats, reunions, birthdays, girls/guys weekends or a romantic getaway.

There are many scheduled events, festivals, and activities throughout the year. There are world class to down-home restaurants within 10-30 miles (Most notable, Inn of Little Washington). So come and relax. You won't want to leave.

Amenities: huge stone fireplace, air conditioning, 62' TV plus three standard size TV's, VCR, DVD, clock radios in each bedroom, stereo, CD, dvd player, VHS player, full stocked kitchen, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, cooking utensils provided, linens provided, washer, dryer, sauna, 18' bar, gas grill, den with queen bedroom and futon, game room with foosball and air hockey, & outside chiminea.

WE JUST HAD WIFI INSTALLED. IT IS SLOW BUT SLOWLY IMPROVING!! we highly encourage getting off the grid…

Absolutely horrible

The place was misrepresented, the property was absolutely filthy, and I wound up with a terrible rash from the place. The property house was somewhat hard to deal with and resolving my issue. I will never stay in that dump again.

A little slice of heaven near the mountains!

This is our second stay at Spirit Dancer and I can't recommend it enough! We come up for the hiking (old Rag, White Oak Canyon) and the mountains but we're also finding it hard to leave the property!! The setting feels so private and remote though you're just not far from restaurants and other activities. It has a lovely rustic feel BUT is very luxurious! We loved the foosball and air hockey, coffee on the back deck, dinner prep in the large and well stocked kitchen and the comfy beds. The ease of communication from our host Darden also makes this a favorite place for us. We enjoyed a spectacular storm with a very brief area wide power outage, and Darden, kept us well informed on the status from the power company! We look forward to continuing this family tradition and coming back in 2024!

Beautiful location and property, accommodating host!

The acreage on this property was just the best. We stayed here over our wedding weekend, and between this cabin and the Sun Dancer, our entire families were able to stay near each other AND the venue. Couldn’t ask for a better location and the host was so accommodating. The grounds are beautiful, and walking between the two lodges amongst the fireflies was pretty magical. The trails, the catch and release pond and new pavilion were also very much utilized- it was just the right amount of space for a large group to spend time together AND spread out if they wanted/needed to.

Great for groups

The location is hard to beat being so close to hiking trails (some of my favorite in the DMV), wineries/breweries, and even world class restaurants. The house has huge common areas and made for great places to hang out and play games. Plenty of twin beds so there wasn't very much sharing needed. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need. There are now over 1000 coffee filters in a drawer as of April 2023.

Beautiful Setting & Convenient to SNP

The house was great accommodations for our extended family: 6 adults & 4 young children. It’s a beautiful mountain house in an isolated, beautiful rural setting ; yet a very convenient 20 to 30 minute drive to Shenandoah National Park. The house has everything you need for a family stay (just need to bring your own coffee & paper towels; & matches if you want to make a fire in the fireplace - we left these 3 items for the next guests’ convenience). Everything was clean & worked well. The only issue we had was that the downstairs bathroom had a foul odor, like a decaying animal perhaps stuck in the walls. We called the owner about this; left a voicemail message but never heard back from her. Otherwise it was a great family retreat which we highly recommend.

Great cabin!

We had a great time at Darden’s place!! I booked the cabin for my sisters bachelorette weekend, and it was everything we wanted! While it rained the entire weekend, it was so cozy and we were more than happy to spend the day sitting by the fire. Everyone had such a great time and we would love to come back for another trip.

Wonderful great room. Kids loved the air hockey table in basement , and firepit.outside. My grandson caught 4 bass in the pond. Only negative is that the recommended nature hike path from house was overgrown and not usable for us.

Great Place!

This house is amazing, huge and very remote which is great for a quiet get away. The home had plenty of activity options as well. The only drawback was the WiFi was slow when we were all using it and it didn’t work throughout the entire house that well but I suspect the WiFi will improve soon! Highly recommend this home and we wished we could’ve stayed longer!

Beautiful setting, dated description, subpar upkeep

The location was breathtakingly beautiful, from inside through massive windows and outside from the large deck. This home was clearly well loved in the past, but not so much now. Lacking in attention to detail (propane tank ran out quickly; no extra tank, big tv screen was disconnected and remotes had no batteries, no umbrella for patio table, a bathroom sink was clogged, hiking trail was overgrown so inaccessible). Very dim lighting in all rooms, one of which had no windows or ventilation. Cushions would have made the metal outdoor chairs more comfortable. Maybe not the best choice if you have toddlers as there are large cactuses and a beautiful jagged stone table to beware of.

Perfect retreat for Shenandoah access

My 4 adult kids and I came to the mountains for some hiking! We chose Spirit-Dancer Lodge for its location and beautiful great room. The pictures don’t do it justice! It’s close enough for easy access to nearby towns and restaurants but set far enough in that you leave all that behind. We had plenty of space, comfortable beds, and a wonderful Sauna after Old Rag Hike!!! The outdoor deck was a wonderful surprise - bigger than expected and a great place to listen to night sounds from the surrounding trees or have morning coffee. Check in was easy and communication with Darden quick! We will be back!!!

Wine Tour weekend

We had 2 other couples join us for a 4 day weekend wine trip. The cabin we rented was perfectly located for this trip. We traveled south one day north another and spent another day at a small town event featuring wine tasting. The cabin has an open floor plan for everyone to be together and enjoy lots of conversation and fun times. Very private setting in the mountain lots of room for hiking or just kicking back on the large deck and relaxing. Will definitely do it again.

Fun & Fabulous 30th Birthday Weekend Get Together

The Spirit Dancer cabin was the perfect weekend getaway for my 30th birthday celebration with all my closest friends (and their partners) from my middle/high school and college days 😃 I highly recommend this property to those who want to do an intimate gathering with your loved ones for the weekend (or longer 🤓)! Thanks again to Darden for being an awesome property manager and answering my numerous questions as I was planning my birthday bash. I can’t wait to stay here again one day in the future for another big milestone celebration 🎉

Great stay

Stayed here while visiting Shenandoah National park. It's an amazing property that's a quick drive to the park. The house is far out enough that you feel isolated, but a quick 17 minute drive to town if you need to resupply. Lots of things to do at the house as well (relax at the pond, sauna, basement game room.) I went during a full moon, but I bet the stargazing here (on a moonless) would be amazing! Highly recommended.

Amazing mountain escape

Incredible home to get away from it all in the beautiful Central VA mountains. The house is perfectly suited to host groups, families etc. The basement makes a perfect game room/hang out area for kids or adults. The main level has plenty of room for cooking and eating with large groups.

Great, long weekend in the Virginia countryside / Blueridge mountains

This property is wonderful!. It has a wonderful Western theme, and is placed in the pastoral setting of Virginia and the Blueridge mountains. We loved the tranquility, pretty views, and the cool evenings out on the veranda/patio!

Perfect Weekend Getaway

We couldn't have asked for a better place to disconnect and enjoy time with friends and family. The house was great and perfectly slept 12 adults. Darden was quick to respond to any questions leading up to our stay and made it easy for us to just arrive and relax!

Great three days

This house is completely in the sticks - just what we wanted. It is right up against Shenandoah. In a 5-10min hike starting behind the house, you can be in the park. The six of us did not get into the car for 2 of the 3 days we rented. We enjoyed the pond and hikes around the house and played foosball and air hockey.

Pictures don’t do justice

Pictures do not do justice for this house, first of all we loved the the house was completely isolated surrounded by nature. The home itself is so beautiful it has so much lighting, so many small cute little details all over and the view is breathtaking. 14 of us slept comfortably. Perfect for a big group get away.
