Steer Clear

Upon arriving at the property, we noticed the garage window was broken. The front porch stairs were a hazard, they rocked every time we stepped on them. Upon entering the home there was a strong marijuana smell and we found marijuana residue on the window seals in the kitchen, the couch in the living area and on the beds in the upstairs bedroom. There were also crumbs and stains on the beds in the upper bedroom, as well as debris on the stairs leading to the bedroom. There was mold in the bathroom on the ceiling and walls. The shower lining was disgusting and filled with soap scum. It was clear that the home had not been cleaned and I could go on and on about the uncleanliness of the home. I have photos and videos of everything stated. After driving 14 hours to get to the property, this was not what was expected or what we wanted to deal with. I had to go back and forth with VRBO for at least 5 hours through chat, phone and email to try to get this rectified. The first representative stated the Host refused to provide any compensation as they stated the home was cleaned before we arrived. I had to send more than 25 photos to VRBO and speak with a supervisor to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, we couldn’t leave the day we arrived because it had gotten quite late, so we cleaned what we could and closed the bathroom door for the night. We hightailed it out of there the next morning! The Host refunded 6 of our 7 nights stay along with 75% of the cleaning fee.

Cute and quaint!

This house was in great location between downtown Detroit and our other travels. We loved the neighborhood and ample parking. The house had the best setup for my family’s needs. My 2 adult children had their own space upstairs, which was great for them. There is also a cute family room in the basement, but we didn’t need that extra room. Nice appliances and a coffee maker were an a extra bonus.

Could work for some, but not our family

The check in process was problematic to say the least but we figured it out. The property had good space but the cleanliness is not ideal if you have small children. Bachelors may not care as much, but most folks would not be okay with mold all over the bathroom ceiling for instance. Cleanliness matters a lot to us. The location of the property is good, which was most important to us. Would recommend to my brother or friend, but not a family with small children.

Refreshing not-so-getaway

Our family had to vacate our own home for the week; was so thrilled to find this gem of a stay near home. Clean, cozy, great location! Great communication with owner. Thank you!
