This 3-story historic gem, is nestled in the heart of the Historical District in downtown Charleston and invites you to experience the timeless charm of the 1800s with all the conveniences of today. Whether you’re planning a bachelorette or bachelor getaway, a memorable family vacation, beach vacation, or a reunion with friends, The Penny Palace is your ideal retreat to spend nights in downtown Charleston and days at the beaches - Folly Beach, IOP and Sullivans Island! .

The Penny Palace, named after its penny foyer floor, is a very spacious Historical home built in the 1870, and bodes 3-stories of Charleston charm in Downtown Charleston situated near the Medical District. Our home is the perfect combination of Charleston charm complete with modern-day upgrades. Plus, within a 15 minute drive to beaches: Sullivans, Folly & Isle of Palm.

Location: Less than a half a mile from the center of King Street, Marion Square, Charleston Harbor, College of Charleston, Battery Park and more, you’re steps away from Charleston’s vibrant dining, Rainbow Row, Carriage rides, haunted tours, and of course the shopping scene- both antiques and today's fashion!

The Space: It has 5 BR's, 4 Full Baths and (2) 1/2 baths , dining room w/formal table that seats 10, fully stocked kitchen, breakfast nook and multiple family rooms throughout 3 floors. The house is recently refinished but kept the Southern Charm of Charleston with original heart-pine wood floors, exposed beams and of course fireplaces everywhere!

5. Loft Retreat: Head up to the third floor, where a cozy loft room awaits. 1 Queen and 1 twin bed with a half bathroom make it perfect for kids or friends.

6. Private Back Patio: Whether you’re sipping morning coffee or enjoying an evening under the stars, our private back patio offers plenty of seating. Choose between the covered area or the open-air section—it’s your oasis.

7. Parking Convenience: Leave your worries behind! The Penny Palace provides two free parking spaces in a private lot, with additional spots available for a nominal fee.

First Floor: Living room, formal dining room, half bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen with breakfast nook, 1 Large Bedroom with King bed and ensuite bathroom.

Second Floor: 3 bedrooms with full bathroom for each and Queen beds. Additional family room/dedicated work space off one of the bedrooms.

Third Floor: Loft room with 1 Queen Bed and 1 twin beds and half bathroom.

Enjoy relaxing on the private back patio with plenty of seating both covered and uncovered.

Home comes with 2 parking spaces in a private parking lot free of charge with parking garages around the corner and available for additional costs.

We had a cousins weekend together! Everything was fabulous! The host provided snacks and drinks!! We had plenty of room for everyone and every bedroom was comfortable and appealing. This home has everything you need from parking, plentiful towels and toiletries, stocked kitchen, and even corn hole! So convenient to downtown or a quick trip across the bridge to Mt. Pleasant or Isle of Palm. Absolutely would stay here on our next trip! Thank you for your hospitality!

The house was well appointed, immaculate and welcoming in all ways! Bedrooms were plentiful for our group as were bathrooms which had all the amenities. Our host, Ted, was easy to communicate with and attentive to all questions that arose. Location was excellent as well and in a great downtown neighborhood good for walking everywhere.

Welcome included snacks, water, well stocked kitchen. No need to buy condiments, coffee and soda! All bedrooms were comfortable with nice linens. Bathrooms all have bath/shower combinations. Plenty of outdoor toys. We enjoyed the corn hole. Dining rooms seats 10.Location is good, a 10 minute walk to attractions. Good restaurant on the corner.

Great bachelorette weekend

Ted & Erin were great hosts! From accommodating our early check-in request to the cute water bottles & snack gifts left for us, they truly thought of everything. There were an abundance of towels and everyone was talking about how comfortable the beds were. The location was great, just a short walk or uber ride from downtown. Probably the best VRBO stay ever!

Ted & Erin couldn’t have been better hosts! The home is amazing and the location was fantastic. This part is relatively easy if you do enough searching, but the hospitality and attention to detail was over the top! Everything was set up to be welcoming and they had stocked the home with plenty of supplies and treats. If you need a place to stay in Charleston, this is your best bet!

Perfect House for Us

For our son's wedding, we wanted space for our close family, to sleep and to be together, and we wanted to be close to the downtown wedding venue. This house was perfect! The owners thought of everything. They were so considerate. The house was beautiful and fun. And we could walk almost anywhere we needed to go.

Simply The Best

We were here for a Family wedding with 12 of our family. The place was absolutely wonderful. The 4 boys stayed in the 3rd floor bedroom. The four couples each had their own bedroom with bathrooms. The location was excellent close to everything and quiet at night. Great parking behind the house. There were nice welcome gifts and things to eat. You will not be able to find a nicer place for a group. Our host was great and very helpful!!

Penny Palace - Gorgeous Place, Amazing Hosts!!!

Just WOW!!! The Penny Palace was the perfect home away from home during our Charleston trip to celebrate our son's and his beautiful bride's wedding. The location and its proximity to Charleston sites was key! Check-in/out was easy, the home was just gorgeous and fully equipped with whatever you might need, but what stood out to our family was Ted & Erin's thoughtfulness in the treats, drinks, quick responsiveness, welcome gifts, detailed effort to make our stay great!! Perfect house, wonderful hosts - you couldn't ask for more!! Hands down one of the best, if not the BEST we've stayed at. Thank you Ted and Erin!!!

Spacious and Well located

The house worked out perfectly for our week long stay. There are plenty of rooms and all of them were extremely comfortable with all of the amenities that you would need. The house as an easy walk to King Street where all of the restaurants and establishments are. I would highly recommend this property!

Fantastic stay, fantastic home, fantastic owners!

Just returned from a 4 night stay with 9 members of my family ranging in age from 10 years to 80+. The house was everything we hoped it would be plus much more. Communication with owner Ted was easy/quick and he went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay, from an early check in to leaving a kitchen stocked with the essentials, coffee and ice cream! Checking in was a great experience as we explored the 3 floors and 5 bedrooms trying to decide which one to sleep in. Each was unique, welcoming and fully stocked with plenty of towels and bath products. The master bedroom on first floor was perfect for elderly parents as it saved them going up and down stairs to get to a bedroom. Home is in a quiet neighbor and close to several restaurants/bakery and short walk (2 blocks) to free bus service to downtown Charleston. It has plenty of room to spread out and was comfortable, clean, and has great AC throughout every space. The owners have obviously put a lot thought into what makes a rental home special and it shows in the house. From a charging station for several phones at once, fully stocked bathrooms, AC in all spaces (and set at 68 on our arrival), plenty of maps and tour info of Charleston, lots of coffee/creamer/ice cream in fully stocked kitchen to the pastries that welcomed us all made for a great experience and vacation. We have stayed in many rental homes over the past 10 years and this home is easily in the top two and I recommend it without hesitation.

The house is wonderful. Lots of room for our family of 8. The kitchen and bathrooms are very well stocked. The beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the location and could walk or Uber easily.

Absolutely Marvelous!

We had an absolutely marvelous stay! We were visiting Charleston for our son's wedding at St Luke’s, which is about a block away. The location allowed us the ability to stay with three generations of our family with the ability to walk to the chapel. It was perfect! Further, the hosts were very responsive to questions. Highly recommend!

Great House!

We were two families in for the weekend to witness & celebrate the graduation of our children from college. Parking is easy in the back lot, on the street, or in a nearby deck. We didn’t have the need to walk anywhere, so the location wasn’t an issue. The house couldn’t have been more comfortable. Cozy beds, plus bathrooms with plenty of fluffy towels, and shower soaps. Kitchen had everything we needed, plus all the niceties - Keurig with k-cups, sugar, & creamer; plenty of paper towels, ziplock bags & trash bags. There were even packs of instant grits, oatmeal, and nutrigrain bars. We appreciated all those little details! Owners thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable.
