Excellent environment within auniversity. Clean and decent hotel with nice staff.

I was in DC for 8 days for the 250 celebrations and sight-seeing, staying at the Sofitel Hotel. The breakfast is very small in size, expensive and absolutely terrible.there are plenty of much better options nearby. The room was professionally skillfully cleaned daily. however, the ancient TV set was hang crooked and looked beat up. The location is excellent near all the action, however the hotel is very dated the elevators are slow and creaky. It seems rundown for a "five star" designation and it's grossly overpriced for what you getting. The front desk is a hit and miss staffed by mostly African "immigrants" with poor language and customers service skills and most of the time are nowhere to be found. The "free coffee" in the Lobby was cold most of the time, never replenished and that corner was littered with empty disposable cups and an overflowing trash can. I used the bar once it's ok however grossly expensive. Overall I booked the hotel for the location and I was gone most of the time running around DC celebrating. I've been staying in 5 stars hotels all over the world and the US for the last 30 years. Things completely changed for the worst after covid and the Biden invasion. so SAD...
