Overall we had an enjoyable stay at Tirohanga. There were many positives. The main house (built prior to the bedroom areas) is superb; even on a wet day it is a joy to spend time there. The kitchen is v well equipped, there's some lovely seating areas, and the views are largely lovely (though also see below). We did have some difficulty with the key to the bedroom area but David the host came out to help. He was also v good at responding to queries both before and during our stay. I did manage to effectively lock us in at one point as I allowed the side gate to bolt from the outside. A schoolboy error but maybe a bit of a design fault too. I had to find an ingenious way of getting out and reopening it. We did think the second build comprising the bedrooms was a bit 'cold' and pokey. The main reason though why we objectively feel a couple of marks must be deducted is the adjoining property. It's a bit of a mess, and is quite an eyesore. Someone has obviously bought the plot, but then filled it with their caravan, multiple metal trailers, old cars, an old boat, and lots of wood and metal etc. It's not always in your eye-line, but it certainly is if you want to enjoy the late afternoon sun, and you're looking at it from the main bedroom. It didn't spoil things, but it does mean unfortunately we can't give the place a 4 or 5 rating.
