  • Patchwork is a lovely three-bedroom cottage sleeping up to 4 guests in a quiet street, just a short walk to the Quay in the pretty village of Appledore. Offering parking, comfortable accommodation with wood burning stove and beautiful views from the rear terrace it's a great location for your next North Devon break.

    Key information....
    - 3 bedroom property sleeping 4. 1 x King size, 1 x single, 1 x single.
    - 2 Bathrooms. Family bathroom with bath and shower, en suite with shower.
    - 1 dedicated parking space.
    - Fantastic location. Only 1 minute walk to waterfront.
    - Less than 10 minutes drive to sandy beaches.
    - Beautiful garden at rear of the property with deck.
    - Wii games console.


    Walkthrough...
    The main living area is a cosy sitting-room/dining area with a log-burning stove, smart TV and sofas seating 4 people and a dining table that extends to seat 6 people. Downstairs there is also a bright, modern kitchen and utility room with a washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. From the kitchen, the back door gives access to the lower courtyard garden (a lovely spot for early morning coffee or a refreshing drink after walking, surfing or golf). From the courtyard, there are steps up to the upper terraced garden and deck.

    Upstairs, you will find the master bedroom with a king-sized bed, a single bedroom at the rear with views of the garden and a further bedroom which is a generous single overlooking the courtyard. There is also a modern, recently refurbished bathroom with a shower over the bath and, additionally, a bathroom with shower adjoining the rear single bedroom.

    The kitchen is new for 2023 and has granite worktops with seating for three at an integral breakfast bar - perfect for pre-dinner drinks whilst someone rustles up dinner. The owner and her family use Patchwork as their own holiday cottage, staying on a regular basis, and so has aimed to fit it out as a proper home from home rather than a standard holiday let. In 2020 the whole of the downstairs, exterior and some of the upper rooms were completely redecorated. We also enlarged and improved the parking area at the rear of the garden at the same time.

    Who we think it's suitable for...
    - Families wanting to explore the North Devon coast.
    - Surfers... There are a number of fantastic beaches within a short drive.

    Need to know...
    - The property has a VERTUO Nespresso machine for which pods are provided in the welcome box.
    - With regret the property does not accept pets.
    - The property does not accept children under 5 years old including infants.
    - Guests should be aware that from the parking space there are steps leading down to the property. The front of the property is pedestrian only.

Overall really gd, great location just a few steps from the Quay which is lovely. Nice fisherman’s cottage. Has everything you need including a good parking space for one car at the back.

Lovely Holiday

Patchwork is a lovely cottage with everything you could want. Clean comfortable beds and the whole house was spotless. Parking space is also a plus in this area. Appledore is a great place with little shops and eateries. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to North Devon. Thankyou to Sara.

Had everything

This was the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed at. We love Appledore and this was a good location for the quay. Parking is a bonus. Just a few very minor issues: The cottage smelled damp, but we appreciate this is to be expected from this type of property. Our 19 year old son said the single beds were uncomfortable- but they would be fine for younger children. The street behind is overgrown and scruffy. None of these issues spoilt our stay.

Homely Heaven in North Devon

A lovely home away from home in a lovely North Devon cottage with a lovely rear garden in the centre of Appledore - a short drive to the amazing tidal beach at Westward Ho! And close to the Bideford for family shopping. In an August heatwave and local regatta week why would you go abroad? Sara the owner has thoughtfully refurbished the house to a high standard. It was a pleasure to stay at there for a fortnight to explore part of the UK I had never been too before. In today's cost spiralling world, this house a fully recommended for a base for a North Devon family holiday. Many thanks to Sara and VRBO too.

Devon holiday

Lovely cottage with all amenities needed within the cottage and beautiful garden. Very comfy beds. Shame that check in was quite so late ( 6pm) and check out so early (9am) as felt we missed a day of holiday , however I do understand the need for additional cleanliness at these difficult times. The cottage was all I had hoped for a break away with my grown up children and one of their partners...thank you

Summer holiday

Fantastic cottage. Great location. Brilliant to have a parking space which is a bit of a rarity in Appledore. Felt like home from home which was ideal for us with small children. It was our second time staying here and we would definitely stay again!

Glorious week in Appledore

After 18 months of Covid restrictions, it was so lovely to spend a week at this cottage. The weather was scorching all week but the cottage stayed cool and the garden area provided different areas to sit throughout the day. The views from the decking were a perfect way to start the day and the planting throughout the garden is beautiful. The cottage had everything we needed, comfy beds and just a short walk into town. Appledore itself, has plenty of great places to eat.......we loved John's, Flame Factory, The Royal Plaice, The Seagate and the Yard. Westward Ho! provides a beach within 6mins drive but we also drove to Croyde (45mins) a couple of times and the beach there is fabulous. We had a fabulous week in Appledire and would happily return again in the future.

Super cottage - photos didn’t do it justice! Much more space than we expected. Great kitchen with everything you could need. Very comfy sitting room and 3 lovely bedrooms! And the weather was fabulous too!

Lovely week in beautiful quiet cottage

We had a lovely week at the cottage. The property was very clean and the rooms were a good size. The kitchen was well equipped, the only thing missing was a wooden spoon. The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed sitting in the courtyard and up on the deck. The local area is really nice, we had a lovely couple of days at Westward Ho beach and my teenage son enjoyed a day at Skern Lodge. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place

Appledore is a beautiful location and just across the water Instow is too! Cottage a little difficult to find at first but ok once you have the hang of it. It had some lovely seating areas in a lovely garden the cottage itself had everything you could need bedrooms were very good especially the single with en-suite for our teenage daughter and our younger sons loved the wii the only slight disappointment was I did have to give certain areas a quick clean but overtake lovely stay with very helpful owners

A perfect holiday cottage.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay in Appledore, the cottage was clean and comfortable and perfect for 5 people. The beds were really comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, the decking at the top of the garden a real plus, the welcome gifts were a lovely thought, great coffee ! A great place to stay in N Devon.

A very comfortable cottage in a great village.

The cottage is very comfortable (beds, sofas) with a very well equipped kitchen. Having an en-suite as well as a family bathroom was great. There was plenty of space for the four of us. The deck at the top of the garden was lovely for meals though the steps from the courtyard outside the kitchen to the first terrace are very steep. The cottage was also beautifully cool on the hot days! The village is in a fantastic spot on the river and has some great cafes, shops and eating places. Crabbing on the quay was also fun. Lovely sandy beaches nearby at Sandymere and Instow.

The cottage is well looked after & has everything you could need for a self catering break, we didn't want to leave! The owners are very friendly & accommodating. Appledore is a lovely town, well placed to access some wonderful beaches & coastline. Bideford is great for shopping.
