"In an attempt to make the hotel more popular, it seems the owners re-designed the exterior, the attached shops (Zephyr Walk) and the lobby to make it cool and modern, without maintaining the rooms at all. There is a surprise resort fee, which apparently can range from $30 a night to $45 a night - to cover “amenities”. I’ve stayed at, at least a half dozen other hotels that don’t charge $35 a night per room to light a couple fire pits. Just work it into the room price and stop surprising people....

"This hotel was dated, yet clean, friendly, and functional. My son and I needed somewhere to stay before our early flight out of Oakland and this place was perfect. We liked the quiet location by the marina and the fact that we could walk next door for dinner. We slept well and being close to the airport made our travel day far less stressful with a 6am departure. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again. "

"Room was not clean whatsoever, there were brown curly hairs high up on the restroom ceiling, the floor of and the bathtub was brown. I also found little bits of black stuff on my bed, maybe that was just from the washer machines though it was like black soft pieces of cotton. One rude staff and the rest were great. Bring water as they don’t offer free water bottles which is a bit weird, elevator is very sketchy and closes very fast so watch out. "

"Super nice location for Berkley visits and more. The hotel is nice but older, the staff is wonderful and cookies are super good. We had breakfast in the morning and the service was excellent and very quick. This is a great place for a weekend getaway and maybe if you have a marina boat tour.
NOTE: Why I didn't give this property full score, is because they add $45 per night just to park your car. This is extension at the highest. This will always be a black eye on this location in my...

"The Star Motel is a gem! It's located within walking distance to great restaurants and coffee shops, it's a short walk to the Marina. We even walked to Fisherman's Wharf and North Beach neighborhood. The hotel is cute, comfortable, clean and safe. The staff is friendly. We appreciated the safe, off-street parking.
