The space

Welcome to Spiritwood, a purpose built rural wellness retreat where modern comfort meets peaceful nature.

Nestled amongst orchards and native bush in beautiful Makarau, Spiritwood has been thoughtfully designed as a private escape for couples looking to relax, reconnect and recharge. Large windows and a private deck overlook the orchard and surrounding bush, creating a calming backdrop throughout your stay.

The private wellness area at Spiritwood features a spa pool, barrel sauna and ice bath, screened by trellis panels with climbing greenery to provide added privacy from the main house while you unwind. Inside Spiritwood, the fresh design, natural light and warm atmosphere make it easy to slow down and switch off.

Guests have exclusive use of Spiritwood, including the guest house, private spa, barrel sauna, ice bath and outdoor deck area.

Guest access

Access to Spiritwood is via a set of steps leading down to the guest house. The path is well marked and designed to create a sense of privacy and seclusion while still being close enough should you need anything.

Other things to note

We live in a separate dwelling on the property, so while Spiritwood is completely private, we're nearby if you need anything during your stay.

The last 5 minutes of the drive to Spiritwood are on an unsealed, winding road, so please take it slow if you're prone to car sickness.

The loft bedroom at Spiritwood is accessed via a movable ladder (approximately 10 to 15 kg). A premium Ecosa sofa bed is available on the main level if you'd prefer not to use the loft or if a friend is staying. Please let us know in advance if the sofa bed will be used because the bedding is stored in the main house and will need to be placed in the guest house before your stay.

We have two dogs on the property. Our friendly senior pug occasionally wanders near the driveway, so please drive carefully. 🙂

An EV charger is available at Spiritwood on prior request.

Being rural, Spiritwood is surrounded by nature, so you may hear chickens, pigs, deer and plenty of native birdlife. Insects can also be attracted indoors at night if lights are left on while windows are open.

The spa, sauna and ice bath are private and exclusively yours throughout your stay at Spiritwood. Please follow the simple care and use instructions provided inside.
