Description

Go beyond Athens to the spectacular Cape Sounion, and see the ruins of the Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical mythology. Admire the views of the Aegean Sea, marvel at the carvings left by Lord Byron, an English Romantic poet from the 1800s, and hear about the legend of Aegeus.

Cape Sounion is a 69 km (43-mile) drive from the country’s capital, so you can see the sights and still be back in time for dinner. Drive on the coastal road along the Saronic Gulf from the capital through some of the city's most beautiful suburbs, including Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, and Glyfada, the largest southern suburb, known for its fashionable atmosphere and upmarket boutiques and cafes.

Visit the ancient Temple of Poseidon, built in the 5th century BC, settled on a rocky hilltop overlooking one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Cyclades islands and the Aegean Sea. Learn about the legend that named the Aegean Sea after the king of Athens, Aegeus, who leapt to his death off the cliff—60 m (197 feet) above the water—after believing his son was dead. Marvel at the Doric columns that inspired many poets, including Lord Byron, and then make your way back to the capital with a breath of fresh air in your lungs.

The tour itself was good, the guide gave us info on Athens and area, history on the temple. When we returned to Athens the tour company was unable to drop us off at our hotels due to a demonstration in city centre, suggesting we take the metro or a cab. I was uncomfortable taking the metro at night in a city i had only been in for 7hrs. Asked the company to pay for a portion of the cab, they finally agreed to after over 30 minutes of arguing, telling us pickup/drop off was complimentary not a guarantee which she couldn't show me on the website. Thought it was very thoughtless and uncaring of the company to not be willing to spend 20£ for customer satisfaction. Made us wait almost an hour for a taxi their company uses instead on 1 that was right outside their office. Will not use Key Tours for any future tours

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié cette visite, le guide était très sympathique et connaissait bien sa matière. L'autobus était confortable.
