What you can expect

Make your own way to River City Shopping Mall to meet your guide outside the bicycle office of Co Van Kessel no later than 8.30am. Although not strenuous, there is several hours of walking ahead of you so it is highly recommended that you wear comfortable sport shoes and light clothes.

On foot, enter the historic neighbourhood of Talad Noi. Talad Noi is one of Bangkok's oldest settlements, with ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and Khmer communities calling it home very soon after the foundation of Bangkok. The area was Bangkok's first port, and was where immigrants landed. It is home to The Holy Rosary Church and its grand Gothic Revival syle architecture; the magnificent 'Beaux Arts' style building which was Thailand's first branch bank; houses dating back more than 100 years, a beautifully decorated Chinese shrine; Pathum Kongka Temple which is quite a significant temple for Thai's but barely known, and rarely visited by foreigners.

As well as walking to, or walking past, the above you will see the old walls of some buildings in Talad Noi have been skilfully adorned by local graffiti artists. You will walk through small streets and laneways making you way to the commercialized Songwad Road, where both wholesalers and retailers sell a variety of products. Another stop will be made here, when you pop into an small, unique old building that has been suitably furnished and converted into a cafe and art gallery.

Moving into Chinatown, stop to enjoy dim sum at Lhong Tou Café OR take a tuk-tuk to a Michelin chicken noodle shop close to the Tiger Shrine.

Along the way to the Buddhist temple Wat Ratchabophit, delight in the famous Thai desserts of Bua Loy Khai Wan and Authentic Thai Ice-Cream with Coconut Milk.

Wat Ratchabophit, home to the current Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, is a uniquely designed and decorated complex, of which at the centre is a tall golden chedi covered with orange-coloured tiles and a golden ball at the very top. The interior is decorated with mother-of-pearl, fine Benjarong painted tiles, grand Erawan heads and more. Then stop at Wat Suthat, a temple recently submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a future World Heritage Site.

Following more walking and more sightseeing, including the famed Loha Prasat monastery, you will step into a long-tail boat for a very interesting speedboat ride along the canal and finish the tour at Hua Chang Pier close to MBK, Siam Square and the BTS Skytrain.
