Lovely vacation residence with great views in a fantastic location

Publicado el 13 ago. 2019 en HomeAway
Yolanda's home provides a lovely vacation residence in a fantastic location with great views of the ocean and Gibbs Lighthouse. The home is clean, with spacious rooms and lots of closet space. The A/C and ceiling fans worked well and really helped with the August heat. The kitchen was well equipped, and everything in the home was in great condition. There are 3 decks - 2 with ocean views and 1 with a unique and memorable view of the lighthouse. The home is across the street from Henry VIII Restaurant and Henry's Pantry. We enjoyed lunches and dinners at the restaurant, which also has spectacular views of the ocean. The Pantry is mostly a liquor store but also provides water, soft drinks, snacks, light sandwiches at lunchtime, and bus tickets. The home is a short walk from Gibbs Lighthouse, which offers a panoramic view of Bermuda. A short distance past the lighthouse is an entrance to the Bermuda Railway Trail - an excellent place for walking, running or biking with many scenic vistas. The rail trail has some breaks in it that are joined by main roads, so a little navigating help may be needed on where to rejoin the trail. We got help from a friendly dad biking with his 2 sons on their way to visit Grandma :-) Within reasonable walking distance are a number of beautiful beaches, including Horseshoe Bay Beach (about 20 minutes door to sand) and Church Bay (about 10 minutes). Be careful with the afternoon waves on Horseshoe Bay Beach - they can be treacherous! Also within a short walk is the Southampton Fairmont Hotel with a challenging par 3 golf course with lots of pretty views and restaurants, and a few other restaurants. With the bus stop across the street, it is pretty convenient to get to Hamilton, the Dockyard, and St. George (travel times are longer than the distances may indicate due to the winding, narrow roads). There is WiFi connection, although it is slow, which may not be such a bad thing on vacation. There are 2 very large closets in the master bedroom suite with lots of hanging space, but no drawers. The water pressure for showering is low if you have long hair. We would highly recommend this home to anyone, and we look forward to our return visit!

Sleeps many more than 7!

Publicado el 13 ago. 2019 en HomeAway
We were part of a group of 40 there for a kickboxing championship. The house is nice and comfy and even though listed as sleeping 7, we calculated that it could easily sleep 10 comfortably. There are ample outdoor areas/decks to hang out on too. The owners are chill and never bothered us even though we were probably loud and stayed up very late every night (they stay in the adjoining unit). The negatives were that its far from Hamilton/Dockyards (cab rides were expensive) and the internet was terrible. We had friends in other AirBnBs and we would go to their houses to upload/download anything. Church Bay Beach is the closest beach to the house and its super private. Horseshoe Bay Beach is walking distance too, but avoid if there are cruise ships in the Dockyards because that's where they all know to go (which is usually everyday). There's a scooter rental place close by right across from Church Bay Beach too, if you want to do that to cut down on cab rides. There isn't much of a guide in the home (a welcome binder, info etc) so we were kinda figuring stuff out as we went. But IMO that's better than too many rules. Overall, we were happy with our stay.

Perfect Paradise

Publicado el 12 jul. 2019 en HomeAway
If you are looking for the perfect accommodations in the perfect location, then Windjamner Cottage is the place to stay. The three bedroom home was spacious, clean, and quiet. The ocean view each morning was a great way to start the day. Communication with the owners was easy and responses came quickly. This location offered us access to the gorgeous southern beaches, Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, restaurants, and markets using rented scooters. A bus stop is just across the street for travel to Hamilton and St George. Bermuda is a paradise not to be missed and staying at Windjammer made our visit perfect!

What a view!

Publicado el 29 jun. 2019 en HomeAway
This is a beautiful property in a great location in walking distance to restaurants, Lighthouse and Horseshoe and Crossbay beaches. The bus line is very close also. We had a great time and especially enjoyed the view from the outdoor deck. The bedrooms were very spacious with enough bathrooms to accommodate everyone. Henry VIII is directly across the street with a small pantry for small purchases. We had a cab take us to the market not too far from there and had him wait while we quickly shopped....I would say it was about a 15 min walk to Horseshoe Bay Beach with the short cut through Fairmont road access near the tennis courts. We were very happy with our stay here. The only thing we all agreed on was that upon entering there was an odor like that of a smoking smell or maybe mustiness....and the appliances could have been cleaner and a few minor updates here and there. Overall it is a beautiful property in a great location and we had a wonderful time!

Great House

Publicado el 6 nov. 2018 en HomeAway
This house to up to date, clean, and spacious with great views. The A/C also worked well. Close to restaurants, beaches, bus stop and easy to get a taxi by walking down to the main road. The owners are responsive and helpful. Also near a small store for snacks, drinks and liquor. The only shortcoming is the kitchen could use a little more equipment and only one burner works on the grill. Fine for breakfast and lunch; little more of a challenge for dinner in. We also got take out from Henry VIII which is literally across the street. They have a bar menu that you have to ask for and they also have Sushi to go. Other Hints: Prearrange transportation to and from the airport. Less taxis available on Saturday and Sunday. The stairs to Cross Bay Beach (only 5 minutes downhill) are on Cross Bay Rd. Walk towards the Fairmont and it will be on you're right. You can't see the stairs from South Rd. Horseshoe Bay Beach is a twenty minute walk if you cut through the Fairmont Beach Club and Tennis Courts. You can rent stuff at Horseshoe but can be crowded on Cruise Ship Days. Cross Bay is never crowded but lacks facilities. Buying groceries is not easy unless you rent a scooter. You can rent scooters at The Reef's. We had the taxi stop at the store on the way from the airport. Henry's Pantry does sell bus tokens. If you use the bus a lot buy tickets at the bus depot in Hamilton. Cuts the price in half. Best to take buses to and from Hamilton or Dockyard. If the bus is full it won't stop and pick you up. If you want to go to St George's take the bus to Dockyard, then the ferry. All the restaurants nearby (walkable) are good, Henry VIII, The Dining Room at the LIghthouse, and Coconuts at The Reef's. The best part of Bermuda is the people (always say Good Morning, Afternoon first) are friendly, you feel safe everywhere you go, the beaches are clean and no one bothers you on the beaches, the restaurants and service are great, people are helpful (if you're friendly) - a great place to go for vacation. All of the above comes with a price, Bermuda can be more expensive than other Islands, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. This house is in a great location for getting around the Island and at the same time being near the beaches. We had three couples and everyone had plenty of room.

Other than the lack of water pressure on both of the showers, it was a nice place to stay.

Great house and location- updates needed

Publicado el 13 sept. 2018 en HomeAway
The house was bigger and better than the pictures. Loved the wall mounted A/C units in each bedroom. Great views of the ocean and lighthouse. Easy walk to Gibb's Lighthouse. Henry the VII restaurant is across the street. Horseshoe Beach is about a 30 minute walk. We took a cab. Too hot too walk with all your stuff. This house isn't near any town. We rented scooters and took cabs to get around. Hamilton is about a 25 minute taxi ride. The beds are very firm, thin sheets, rough bedding. Very uncomfortable. Thin window treatments let in light (from the street light on one side) and from the lighthouse on the other side. Room darkening window treatments are needed. The pots and pans are unusable. Need to be replaced. We had no water on our last day. Couldn't brush our teeth, shower, flush toilets or do laundry or the dishes. The water pressure is a trickle in the main bedroom shower. We had to use the handheld in the bathtub to clean up. All the closet doors don't close right, need some maintenance.

Highly Recomed buy a Group of 8 Girls

The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s spacious, clean, and has three decks that overlook the lighthouse and the ocean. The owners are very nice. Chef Greg is an amazing cook as well!
