Spring Break Vacation with Family

Publicado el 31 mar. 2019 en HomeAway
My wife and I stayed with our twin 14 year old daughters from March 25 - 30. When we arrived we were a little concerned but by our first full day it was great. You have to drive through Adelaide Village to get to the property. Adelaide Village is a poor community and the street to the unit has a number of properties that have been damaged by past hurricanes and in the process of being repaired. The location on the beach is really nice. The water is shallow and mostly sandy (There are some areas with coral that we avoided). During low tide you can walk out well over 100 yards with the water 3' to 4' deep. The condition of the unit was a 7 on a scale of 10. The tile floor in the kitchen had at least two tiles that were cracked and loose so every time you stepped on them they would move. I am sure it is hard to keep up with maintenance. They had chairs that we took to the beach everyday along with floaties. The chairs and floaties had seen their better days but worked. Beach towels and bath towels were in the unit. 5 gallon water dispenser was very nice since we brought our own insulated water bottles. We had the beach to ourselves. There were a couple locals that we met and got some local knowledge. We explored the entire island with a rental car and it was our opinion that Adelaide Beach ranked up there with the other beaches on the north side of the island with no crowds from the resorts or cruise ships. Snorkeled up and down the beach. There was an area to the west where the yachts came and went from the Albany resort that had a man made stone barrier and also a very deep section (which I was told about later) that was probably the best place. While snorkeling I saw a total of 5 stingrays other fish, star fish, "live" conch shells. I was glad we took the chance and stayed here instead of a hotel/resort on the north side of the island. We got to experience more of what the Bahamas have to offer compared to the areas set up for tourists. Food is expensive. Flying Southwest Airlines and getting free checked bags, we packed one suitcase with food to minimize what we had to buy when we got there. Did not have one lunch or dinner at a restaurant for less than $100. An outdoor grill would make a great addition to the unit. We always felt safe and will consider a return visit sometime in the future. The overall experience for a family vacation was 10 out of 10.

SEVEN WEEKS IN PARADISE

Publicado el 11 mar. 2019 en HomeAway
Pomelo North provides its guests with beautiful seascapes, gorgeous sunsets, and a very private beach stretching for miles. The condo provides all necessary amenities, although the showers were a bit tight. Bed was comfy, and had lots of towels for bath and beach. If I could add one thing to the kitchen, it would be a cookie sheet for the oven, but I understand that most people probably are not there for a long stay and don't even use the oven. Travellers should be aware that it is a very expensive island. We shopped at Solomons Fresh Market because it was the most like home, but cost was double what we would normally pay. Rent a car from Virgo ( not the airport) because its a third of the cost. We felt very safe and everyone was very friendly - especially the lady who lives next door. She brought us fresh Papaya in the morning and cooked us lobster and snapper. We feel we have found a new friend for life. Loved walking down the beach to the Albany Marina to watch the Yachts come and go. Rented paddle boards for a week from Pappa Surf (who delivered) and gave us excellent service. Bridgette was very helpful in planning a day trip for us to Lagoon Island for a Dolphin excursion. Unforgettable. If you have any questions or concerns, just send a quick message and management answers quickly. All in all, a wonderful, relaxing , quiet piece of paradise. Until next time....

Great Property - Expensive Island

Publicado el 27 ene. 2019 en HomeAway
Property IS as it is advertised. It is RIGHT on the ocean. It is a 3 unit place - unit is the upper left looking from the beach. Walk out gate in the wall shown - and the water is 3 feet away at high tide - 6 feet at low. Inside - nice, clean, almost every amenity and utensil you could use. 2 baths. Showers are tight - but they are fine. Everything worked as it should. The people who rent and arrange are very nice and supremely helpful. I was coming in on Christmas day - no rental cars available - they put me in touch with ANOTHER very nice guy who drove ahead of us to lead us across the island to show us where it was !! Water out front is shallow with a small reef. Good for wading at low tide - and some snorkeling at higher tides. The island is VERY expensive. SO much of it is resorts or gated communities - there aren't too many places other than Nassau - to eat/shop etc. Food even in stores very expensive. Makes sense - has to be shipped there. But I was a bit unaware. The area where the rental is - is a bit impoverished - a lot of buildings damaged from past storms not fixed. Nothing around there. Nearest store is maybe 4-5 miles away. There are some restaurants there too - Chinese and pizza - we didn't eat there. The Bahamas has beautiful beaches - and in our experience - the NICEST people. Seems safe. If you are looking for tranquility on a tropical beach - not hustle bustle nightlife - this is the place !

Excellent view, nice condo, not the best customer service

Publicado el 15 jun. 2018 en HomeAway
We stayed for 9 days in this condo. The view is fantastic, condo is right on the beach and in a nice & quiet part of the island. The nice lady next door was absolutely wonderful. She brought us fruit & local breads for our kids. I was so impressed by her. The condo is nice, nothing special. The beds are nice, there is a lot of sitting space, extra towels & sheets, and the showers were pretty cool. The condo was clean, but one bedroom didn't have a working light, one had a broken lamp, and when we arrived, 2 out of 3 of the AC controllers needed batteries. The kitchen has a lot of plates, nice pans, no skillet and no pitcher....a blender, but not a pitcher. Tangerine Sunsets was kind enough to allow us an early check-in for our anniversary, but when we asked for a replacement lamp & batteries for the controllers, you would think we asked for their kidneys. The agent, Brigette, was beyond rude to us. When she finally agreed to bring the lamp & batteries, she was so argumentative and rude. The kids & I were waiting in the car because we were going to another beach, so my husband went inside with her...it took 30 minutes of her arguing before she finally changed the batteries!!! Why?! He finally said, please, just give me the batteries! She complained several times about having to drive 23 miles to come out there.... We did offer to pick up the batteries. I don't understand it at all. The door to the condo broke free from the hinges and I was afraid to call after how we were treated, so we tried to fix it ourselves, but couldn't. I asked not to deal with that agent again and I didn't have to. I talked with Zaira and she is super kind & helpful. They sent someone out very quickly and he fixed it quickly also. He was awesome, whistling while he worked, we really like him. We rent condos at least twice per year and have never had so many problems or been treated this way. I would recommend the condo, but avoid dealing with that agent. I don't think we should ever feel afraid to call the rental agency and that's how we felt. We enjoyed being far from all of the big hotels & cruise ships. It's very peaceful in this area and we always had the beach to ourselves. We recommend trying out Love beach on the other side of the island. Also, the best grocery store was Solomon's fresh market.

Amazing Sunsets

Publicado el 12 mar. 2018 en HomeAway
This was a beautiful condo on a lovely stretch of beach. The condo had everything one needed for a perfect vacation while never having to leave. The area is far from the hustle and bustle of Nassau, which is what made it so perfect. Renting a car is a must if you want to travel to other areas of the island. We did go into Nassau, Paradise Island, and many beaches, and were aways happy to go back to Adelaide Village and its serenity. Our neighbor in the adjacent condo was so lovely and friendly, bringing us fresh fruit and fish. Any questions we had were immediately answered by the staff and they were great in giving us directions. If you are looking for a peaceful vacation away from it all, with stunning turquoise waters out your back door, this is the place for you.

Nice apartment with beautiful view!

Publicado el 27 ene. 2018 en HomeAway
I planned a quick 3 night stay at the pomelo north unit in Jan 2018 to celebrate my husbands birthday. The apartment was well appointed and updated. We enjoyed cooking breakfast in the updated kitchen and eating outside on the porch over looking the water. The washer and dry in unit was very convenient. We didn’t have great weather but enjoyed walking on the beach and watching the lightning from the porch. Netflix was a nice touch since we had rain. We were lucky to enjoy a few hours of sun and walking on the beach. All in all a nice quiet stay, you won’t be disappointed.
