A palace
This hotel is gorgeous, a real palace. Rooms are beautiful, very comfortable, service is great. It’s expensive, but worth it to feel like a prince/princess for some days! You do need a car to get to Sintra and the palaces from this hotel. And I wish there had been free wifi - I didn’t ask, but the only available network wanted to charge 9euro/hour. Anyway- overall, a beautiful and excellent hotel.

An Amazing Place to Stay
We loved this hotel when we stayed for a special weekend away. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble and email communication before we arrived was friendly and prompt. This meant all our special requests were ready and waiting when we arrived. The Evening meal was the best we had in Portugal. Its pricey, but well worth it, and the setting is perfect for a really special occasion. Get dressed up, step back into another time and really enjoy the elegant, discrete service at table. The pianist completes the atmosphere. The gardens are a real treat to explore, there are formal, structured areas and wild woodland. Sintra is a great place to explore and the Palace is wonderful to come home to.

Spend time at the Quinta da Regaleira. Its 5 minutes walk down the hill from the hotel and is magic (and very odd) Take the tour of the grounds and then spend time exploring further on your own.

Wonderful hotel
Great place and very well placed in Sintra. A magnificent setting. Made the mistake of thinking that this was a 4-5* hotel in the ’normal’ sense of the word. Expecting everything to be very clinical. Not so. In fact, the Palace has been maintained in the period that it was built with appropriate furnishings providing a wonderful opportunity to experience the neo-classical style in Sintra. Wonderful staff and wonderful food. A wedding took place at the time of our stay with the bride arriving by helicoptor on the front lawn. A great stay.

A must is the Quinta da Regaleira just down the road. Go early morning as there won’t be so many crowds. Enjoyed this more than the Pena Palace as the crowds were very very large.
