Great Renovated Rooms - but choose carefully.
The hotel is undergoing a slow renovation. As we understood, they are changing blocks of floors at a time. The lobbies, elevators, and rooms between floors 21 to 28 have been renovated - and they have done it well. But the other floors, and the dining areas/restaurants are still the old decor and pattern - gloomy and dated. The swimming pool and rooftop restaurant were being renovated the exact week we were there. Bad luck - but the pool is an envious location. No other hotel in the area will have a similar view. This is the highest hotel in Copacabana - and the pool area is very safely guarded with roof high glass walls. I have confidence that they will do a good job in renovating the pool (given the job they have done on the rooms or lobbies) and that would make this pool a catch item for the hotel zone. Now to the rooms ... very tastefully done. Very clean, modern wood furniture, very comfy beds, and a nicely designed bathroom. No tubs - just shower - but I loved it just like that. Every room has a fabulous view ... either of the Sugar Loaf or the mountains on the Ipanema/Leblon side. You could spend hours in the room looking outside and taking photos. Rooms have two very comfortable swivel chairs and a sliding glass doors with a peeking balcony. When you make a booking in Expedia - just make sure you are getting one of the new rooms and you will be ok. The dining room lines at breakfast were too long though. They should have provided more buffet tables. Food is average.
